I'm pretty confident that the Dream Act will pass the committee this time, but anyone has any idea how long before it could reach the senate floor for debate? We got to have patients, but I'm anxiously waiting for it to be sent for debate. . ..

It's patience*

I know we're all anxious but these threads shouldn't be created. If anyone knew the answer to your question you would've seen it somewhere already. Just do your part and mail, fax, call. No one knows what destiny holds for us but whatever it is, I know we need to fight for it.

No one knows. None of us are senators.

If the Republicans didn't filibuster the Dream Act, we would only need 50 votes to pass the Dream Act in the Senate with the Vice President casting the tie breaking vote. But the Republicans are filibustering the Dream Act so we need 60 votes for cloture (a vote to end the filibuster) and then just a bare majority (50 votes + VP) to pass the bill after cloture.

In the House, there is no filibuster by the minority so the House leadership only needs a bare majority to pass a bill. That will be 218 votes to pass a bill in the House.
