Anyone got their ITIN post 9-11?

I remember reading the guidelines pre and post 911 and I think the big change that scared me was some guideline that allowed the IRS to share info w/other federal agencies....

So, did anyone get one and how? No partyvan came a'knockin ?

Wow I got mine way after 9-11, but no van has shown up at my door...Should I be worried?

Yes, I got one through my dad when he received his and started filing taxes. IRS assigned the numbers to those who filled out an application, but there was a change, I believe in 2007, where you have to file a tax return with your application. There are some exceptions to having to file a return with it, can't remember the details. I think one exception was if it was required by a bank so you can open an account, not sure though. Search for form W7 in the IRS website and read the instructions, everything you need to know is there. Use the search function here too, there are lots of threads about ITINs.

And no, no van has come to my door. All the IRS cares about is getting your money.

My parents and I got ours in...'05. That's what i've been using to do my taxes.
