Hello everyone,

Just found this site and im glad i did!

While i understand this is not a full immigration board... I going to share a little bit of my life and see if anybody can help me.

I came to the states when i was 17 with my mom due to security reasons in my country "Col - South america". She used to have a medium-high level position with the goverment and some bad terrorist people wanted to hurt my mom and I, so she decided to come to this country and apply for a political asylum. 2 years passed and this process was getting rejected, probably because we did not have the best lawyer at that time. With the years we had to split the case "1 for me, 1 for her" because i was already 18+. Mine case was rejected completly leaving me with no status, ironically hers got accepted and now she is waiting for her permanent residence "Im really happy because of that".
Long story short, i finished school and 2 years of college, got married to a wonderful woman 4 years ago and now we have the most important thing on our lifes, our daugther Elah. Her situation is very similar to mine except that she finished High school and her university carrier and now she is going for her master. My current situation is about to get a little bit harder cause my license is about to expire on 6 months and it looks that im not going to be able to renew it...
I came to the states back in 98 and she got here in 99, we had always pay taxas and never got involved on any type of immoral situation "Just one ticket for me lol, nothing else". Im kind of good with computers and programming, as a matter of fact one time i presented myself to an interview not knowing that was for the FBI and i passed every test with really good qualifications but because of my status obviously did not continue with the hiring process...

I just want to know, if there is anything that we can do to change our situation? and if the dream act gets approved, will help me or my wife?

Thank you for your time and sorry for the big post

Proof of residence in the United States for a least five (5) consecutive years since their date of arrival, compliance with Selective Service.
Must be between the ages of 12 and 35 at time of bill enactment.
Having graduated from an American high school, or obtained a GED.

You arrived after your 16th birthday, so you can't benefit from the DREAM ACT.

When did you wife arrive the US? if before her 16th birthday and she would benefit from the DREAM ACT then you could get a green card after she's a US citizen.

She got here when she was 14 so she would be in!

Of course it helps. Tell them to send out postcards, to call, to e-mail, to fax. We have a few campaigns going on so just PARTICIPATE

That's good. In the day she becomes a citizen you could apply for your green card. Unless you entered the US illegally (without inspection) and then it's very complicated.

But reading your story it sounds like you entered legally.

Hopefully, bro you would not have to wait that long. The dream act might benefit your wife only but Comp Imm Reform will also benefit you and every one on this board should morally push for CIR when the DA passes or in conjunction with it.

Tell you online community members to contact legislators but more importantly also contact media outlets and don't fall for the racists spin of some of the news media especially CNN.
