So the guy who made the now iconic Obama HOPE Posters, Shepard Fairey (who's responsible for the famous OBEY Posters and whatnot) has made some awesome posters for tomorrow's May Day Marches and Immigratiton Reform in general.
http://obeygiant.com/headlines/immigration-reform-now
I knew he was pretty liberal (he made some posters opposing Prop , but I wasn't sure where he stood on immigration.
Now that he's made these posters and put up his statement online,
we know he's apparently sympathetic toward the issue, so now I'm wondering if we could get him to endorse the DREAM Act.
He's a pretty big name, especially after his Obama poster, so his endorsement would be a big plus for us, and wouldn't it be awesome if he made an iconic DREAM Act poster?!

Sorry to say this, but these are NOT good posters at all. The man looks, first and foremost, threatening. Slogan in Spanish is very bad idea. One could interpret it as this fictional character does not want to speak/learn English nor assimilate. This person looks stocky and well fed; he doesn't need nobody's help. And the little girl, she looks hysterical. The upside down warning sign does not fly with me. Again, it seems to suggest the character does not want to assimilate. Where are the suffering, where is the need to get them out of shadows? These posters will not touch emotional cord in people. Waste of effort.

Eh, they're not as effective as the HOPE posters.
I think they could be better.

BUT I do think that it would be awesome if Shepard Fairey could make us some kick-ass DREAM posters.

I'm just using these posters as an example. They may not be as well done as some of his many posters (there are a lot!), but what other posters have you seen for Immigration reform? His HOPE posters for Obama started the whole Obama poster madness last year, and wouldn't it be cool if his endorsement led to other artists creating posters for the movement? Seeing what he's done with past posters, a really good poster from this or any other well known artist could be a big boost for us.

Personally I think it shows that these people are empowered and ready to be let out of the shadows, these people don't want to be rescued, they just want to be able to have the doors opened to them so that they can fulfill their full potential.

I agree. Plus, I think he is trying to tie up the struggle for immigration rights with the one with the farm worker rights. I know he spend weeks researching and looking for photos that fit the message he wants to portray.

Honestly, someone told me I was always arguing with them. I am sorry if I feel forceful. Yet, I am getting sick and tired of all the nay sayers that find a but in every CIR or DA activity that others are doing.

This thread was to create suggestions as to how to get this guy to make a poster for DA. Yea, 'cause he is going to be so thrill to make a poster for DA while people in the DAP are putting down his work and his message for CIR. Just imagine a democrat saying, "the hope poster is not good, it kind of resembles the Che Gevara poster, is communism and revolution the message we want to give!?" Okay, do a poster about Joe Biden.

If you do not like what others are doing, do something yourself and promote it, get your message out and make your point. Tancredo is not going to like you more just cause you don't like the posters, neither your words are going to separate yourself from the other immigrants.

More than being like by 5% of the population, we need the attention of the rest of the country. Yes, well made piece of media by a famous artist can help. So, let's focus on that and skip the rest, better yet, why don't DAP member generate their own propaganda that everybody else can use for their own campaigns.
