He began to talk about his background to the group. He said that with an Irish Catholic background he understood that immigrants of the past came to this country due to religious persecution and that now, we are looking at a surge of immigrants because of economic dislocation. He said, "No one comes to this country leaving their family, culture and everything they own, only to be hated and treated poorly here, they come for jobs. It's a matter of survival."

Wow. Thanks for posting that.

I feel like we keep hearing the same thing over and over again. It's always basically "Hang in there. We'll do something about it soon."

That must have been quite something. I like how she was quite nervous, but managed to ask her question. Also, it was nice how the VP already knew all about the Dream Act.

Wonderful blog post! I liked this part the best:

Quote:
He began to talk about his background to the group. He said that with an Irish Catholic background he understood that immigrants of the past came to this country due to religious persecution and that now, we are looking at a surge of immigrants because of economic dislocation. He said, "No one comes to this country leaving their family, culture and everything they own, only to be hated and treated poorly here, they come for jobs. It's a matter of survival."

He then went on to talk about the importance of international relations, decreasing poverty abroad, etc. He gave the group the big picture. He then came back to specifics. "If it were up to me and Barack, we'd have something out by the end of year. We hope to."
Unclear whether he was referring to CIR or Dream but judging by the "big picture" comments on immigration about economically dislocated immigrants and international relations, I bet he was referring to immigration reform, which would include Dream. Great news either way.

VP Biden also mentioned immigration reform in his email to PA Democrats praising the newest Senate Democrat, Arlen Specter:

Quote:
Mr. Biden, who helped persuade his former Senate colleague to switch parties, also told recipients that Mr. Specter will “keep up his great work on issues ranging from cancer research funding to global warming, deficit control to immigration reform — and in our coming debate to reform America’s health care system.”

I've heard Biden is an obstacle for CIR in the whitehouse due to the argument that CIR will hurt blue collar workers.

This visit can do nothing but benefit our cause. Thank You

Joe Biden is a stand up guy, and he's been on our side for a while ,but i'm always weary about politicians. Lets all get on the hope train.
