Quote:
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- A White House meeting on immigration initially scheduled for next week has been moved to June 17 to accommodate President Barack Obama's travel schedule, an administration official said Wednesday.
The session, which will include a small group of House and Senate leaders from both parties, was originally set for next Monday. Obama returns from his trip to the Middle East and Europe late Sunday.
Immigration reform is unlikely to make much progress in Congress this year, with Democratic lawmakers pushing sweeping legislation on health care and energy. The politically thorny issue is expected to be even more difficult next year as a result of the mid-term elections.
The administration official said the White House meeting will be used to "identify areas of agreement, and areas where we still have work to do."
The official said the get-together is intended to launch a policy discussion on immigration, "with the hope of beginning the debate in earnest later this year."
Wasn't this trip planned months ago? And wasn't the speech he planned to give in Egypt supposed to be the biggest speech of his presidency so far?
You'd think whoever sets his schedule would see all this comming when setting the date to hold these hearings.

Soon it will just be pushed to June 2011 to accomodate the mid-term elections!

*Waiting* for the meeting doesn't advance Dream act in any shape or form, the responsibility of advancing the legislation lies with us.

Note what the article says,"The administration official said the White House meeting will be used to "identify areas of agreement, and areas where we still have work to do."

If we have the extra time to highlight Dream act to all potential persons attending this meeting would be a big win for us.

You know when you like a TV series somuch that you idolize their characters and even buy their action figures? Then suddenly there is always this SUPER CLIFFHANGER episode. They always schedule those episodes with a week of break, so you wait 2 weeks for them. Then suddenly when you wait the 2 weeks, they say due to breaking news ( or what ever other reason), and scheduling issues they have to postponed it for another month.

That is how i feel, but probably 10 times more anxious.

Oh well, patience is good .

That's the attitude . Being optimistic is always the best.

well, like ive been saying all along while some kids tried to insult me for doing so, immigration isnt going anywhere till 2011. hopefully they push DREAM as a standalone, but based on current events, even that is wishy-washy.

as far as the meeting go, if they are discussing what they agree on/disagree instead of trying to hammer out an agenda, what does that tell you about the prospect of immigration reform passing anytime soon? they dont have the votes, they dont even know who agrees to what, along with myriad of other issues that are more urgent.

sorry folks, keep your expectations low this year or it will hurt. but yeah, this sucks big time. im gonna be graduating next year...@#&^!

i think the delay on this meeting doesnt mean anything bad, or some sort of delay they are fully aware of this issue and something needs to be done sooner or later.
