Immigration lawyers say that PennDOT's plan to yank licenses from drivers without a valid Social Security number is unfairly penalizing immigrants who got licenses in the past without a Social Security card.
Can somebody explain to me how this accomplishes anything positive??
Not issuing new licenses to people without a SS#?....I don't support it obviously but ok, I can see some the logic behind it. But taking away the licenses that were already issued? If those people have DUIs, reckless driving charges or several unpaid parking tickets on their record, then their DLs should be suspended and they should have no option of reapplying for them until they adjust their status, but most of the people in the US view their DLs not as a privilege but a necessity. How is depriving a hard working immigrant of their ability to drive and support their family going to help anything? What do these politicians expect, that these people will just pack their bags and leave because they can't drive now? They will either drive without their DLs (which is just awful, because then most of them will not be covered by insurance) or start walking to work, and riding bicycles and then people will just complain that the only thing they see on their streets are undocumented people.
Jesus...politicians just have too much time on their hands.
