Former GOP Rep. Jon Porter, long considered a prospective Reid challenger until he lost his House seat to a Reid-backed candidate in November, has also pointed to the behind-the-scenes machinations of the state’s senior senator.

Some Republicans point the finger at Sen. John Ensign, himself a former NRSC chairman. Ensign, who narrowly lost to Reid in a 1998 challenge, has entered into a nonaggression pact with Reid in which the two men do not publicly criticize one another.

Though Ensign has pledged to campaign for Reid’s 2010 opponent, there is considerable doubt it will be with much gusto.

Sen. Majority Leader Reid is deeply saddened by this turn of events and sends his regard to Ensign's family. It is a most tragic revelation.

Quote:
Senator Reid's thoughts are with Senator Ensign and his family at this time," said Reid spokesman Jon Summers.

So considering his stance on immigration, could this be considered a good thing? Don't really know what to make of it.

But why? The guy cheated on his wife. Why would you ever feel any compassion for this guy.

It's not really compassion for the guy but compassion for his whole family, and obviously, they're going through a tough time because of the actions of Sen. Ensign. The whole matter is unfortunate.
