Hey guys! Well, my story is probably different than most of you and will probably gather me less sympathy but I came to the states when I was 11 from Mexico. I was a pretty good student if not better than average but I couldn't cope with the knowledge that all the hard work at school was probably going to be in vain and take me nowhere given my circumstances so I dropped out at the beginning of 12th grade. Seeing everyone getting their drivers licenses, legitimate jobs and exciting futures ahead was too much for me.

So now I'm working at a semi-menial job which is also not taking me anywhere and still have the same level of frustration. So I'm in the same boat as some of you except with an even smaller prospect ahead . However, I plan on getting my GED within in the next month and putting some faith into the Dream Act, because it would truly be a dream if it passed.

You should definitely get your GED dude. Then take some classes at the community college so you can be on your way to the two years of college required by the D-ACT.

Good Luck!

I felt that all my effort would take me nowhere, so I went through some periods of time where I just gave up. I would skip school and just did dumb shit. But thankfully, I had parents that always kept pusing me to do well.

Don't feel bad because I'm pretty sure every single one of us went through that and felt like giving up at some point.

You should definitely get your GED. Good luck.

oh yeah... Make sure you stick around.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, while I did graduate high school in fact I graduated early, I must say I could have done better! I constantly wish I hadn't ditched school so many times or had gotten better grades. I was an average student. At the time I was working 40-45 hours a week at a restaurant, which didn't help but I was glad to be able to help my mom with the bills. Because I worked so much I decided to graduate early, while I was not the best student I did pass all my classes, and by the end of first semester I had enough credits to graduate. I regret that now, I wish I had stayed and I had done better. While that is now behind me, I Know if the Dream Act passes I would just study every day and never put my books down and be the best student ever Meanwhile I try to get people informed about the Dream act. The people that will vote on this bill live here in our states some even in our town and we need to call and meet with them rather that just hope and dream, we need to take action. PLEASE TELL everyone you know in an effort to spread the word

Im sure many of us have felt the way you have, i know i have. But i know that giving up will just make things worse and that il regret it later. So keep studying and move forward your not alone non of us are. We have this dream that's why we are here, and we do need to spread the word and get people involved, i say we make buttons and pin them to our bags and stuff to get people to start talking about it.

Hello,

I totally can relate to you, I was also a very trouble teen, because i thought that there would be no future for me out there.
So i drop out of school at age 16th, have been working for 11 yrs now.
i'm also trying to go back to school and get my GED, but with a 5yrs old Daughter and working full time it's kind of impossible for me at the moment.
I live in L.A, and just the bus ride everyday it's about 2hrs.
Have to drop my daughter at daycare and jump on the Blue line, then i have to picker her up and take 3 buses to make it back home.

I'm trying my best everyday, but at times i fell like i did when i was 16th.
Confuse, Angry, Desperate, Tired and lonely.

But then i see my baby's face and hear her calling me Mommy and my strength it's back. and i dust my self up cry a little bit get up and continue to struggle for a better future, for my daughters future.

~Maria~
