I need advice. Im 17 yrs old and I would like to go on vacation in the winter to Cali. or some other state from New York. Can I fly with just my school ID since im still considered a minor? or do I need my passport? or do i need a License or state ID. I dont know what to do.... has anyone been in this situation? Would like to hear some advice. Thanks!

I ve heard that minors are allowed to use their school IDs and report cards. Call the airline and ask them. There are plenty of 17 year olds who haven't gotten around to getting their DLs/IDs

before i turned 18, i flew plenty of times with just my high school ID. But then agian, it was before 9/11. the rules might have changed, so you should definitely call the airlines.

I would not fly without a state ID card. They check it 3 times, and they will know that a 17 year old is of age to get one. It will depend on who is checking your card at the time and what they decide to do. They could easily detain you and ask you questions. Its your decision if you want to take the risk.

yea you should definitely check with the airline and figure out whether or not a HS ID is sufficient...but, being under 18, I'm pretty positive that you should be fine with only a HS ID.

Don't worry about it. I've flown within the country with a High School ID many timesl. I recently flew up to New York to visit a college. I'm still 17, and I did not encounter any problems with the TSA agent. Make sure to always smile and be polite though. Have fun on your trip!
