How much information?

Being a complete newbie here, I want to start doing my part with taking action.
I've always found easier to express my thoughts and ideas through writing, and think I will more efficiently convey my message that away.

I would like to know how much information I should 'give out'. I plan on sending these to my local state representatives (both Democrats and Republicans?).
I would naturally tell my true story, but I fear that it might get into the wrong hands and come back at me worsening my situation. I also don't want to seem like a complete stranger doing something shady, I have lived in the state that they govern for as long as I can remember, and I have made a difference here.

So... Name? Address? Email, All?

Any help would be appreciated!

What state do you live in? well either way they cant do anything about it, and they probably wont thats not their job

but to be safe i would say, give your First name (if you want) but no last name (or an initial for your last name), i prolly would say no address, if your filling out a form that asks for address i think what we usually do is we just put the city rather then the street address, well i guess unless you are mailing it and have to, hmm well either way id say dont put adress unless your mailing it or want a written response back, i mean you shouldnt have any problem but again not sure how much you can trust people with these things

and there should be no problem with giving your email adress, or your zipcode, and if you are mailing it to a representative sometimes they ask for your zipcode +4, and you can look that up here http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp if you need it (it just gives them information on what district you are in, thats it)


again its not like they will say OMG!!! he's one of those lets track him!!! but yeah on the other hand it is a delicate situation we have


and remember this is politics we're talking about, there is no such thing as something shady lol

but seriously Welcome and thanks for helping out, we need as much help as we can get, we need them to hear our stories, we need them to realize that this is not only necessarily for us, but this is a change, this is an investment that our country needs, we come from very diverse backgrounds, and are pursuing different career paths in life. But there is no denying that the positive effects that this motivated group of patriots will bring to both the workforce and the country is something that this country cannot afford to give up, especially in times like these

Hey. I just joined the forum, after being denied my green card yet again abd beign told that i had 3 options. either process the case again-which could be denied and a deportation could be filed, 2- marry a US citizen and have him ask for me, or 3 let the dream act be voted on again. I decided to log on and see what the dream act was all about and why it hadn't passed. I found myself surrounded with people who werein my exact situation, feeling just as i am, trying to live a normal life but knowing that hey at anypoint i could be dragged back to a country ido not consider to be my own, i extend my gratitude to those who have offerred a helping hand.

now i ran into this thread and im interested in knowing why it isn't safe to give my full name and address on it to our senetor or to the president? if you could PM with an answer as well as what else i could do to help this dream act get passed this time i would be very appreciative.

Because laws exist, and it sucks to admit this, but we are 'technically' breaking it.
And although I believe any of our stories are enough to change anyone's view, I've lived in this world long enough to see that ignorant humans exist, the kind of people were no matter what you do/say, will never change their mind. Some of these people are against us, undocumented immigrants, and some of those people are in the position to do something (negative) about it.
If that information gets in the hands of one of these people, who are ignorant enough to forcibly go out of their way for it, they can technically execute our worse fear, which is of being deported.

So, that's my biggest fear. I have and hope to never meet someone who would do such a thing, specially since the information would come from a cry for help, but I fear they exist.

You should disclose as much information as you are willing and feel compelled to risk. I appeared in Univision Sacramento two years ago and nothing happened. All the members from my organization know I am undocumented and nothing has happened. Some professors know and many friends.

Gabe appeared on the news with his happy face, name and all and nothing has happened. A lady in the Los Angeles Area formed a group of students that went to city councils to gather their support. There was testimonies of HS students and nothing happened. If something they gather strong support.

You can always say that you are a concerned individual that worry about this particular issue. You can also disclose more information depending on the setting and the place.

It is always good to consider that the more risk the more gain. Your testimony carries more weight than any other argument because you are not a "dreaded other" but a friend, neighbor and member of a community. This law affects, not a foreigner, but one of us and must be stop.

The best possible advice I can give you is to attach yourself to a local organization. Usually, those are connected and more respected than you going to an event/meeting by yourself. It is not the same to belong to the ACLU, CHIRLA or UWD as a volunteer and activist than going Hans Solo on your own.
