Hi, I am new here and I had a question about traveling:

I will be going to Alexandria, VA/Washington, D.C. area with a friend (USC) by car and I was wondering if there was anything I should be worried about (i.e. checkpoints, police stops, etc) since I don't have a government (US) ID nor a current school ID?
We might also tour some of the sites.. do you need ID to get into some of the monuments, etc?

Thanks for any advice/help!

Welcome to DAP,

I don't know about Alexandria,VA but you shouldn't have too many problems in DC.Most of the sites don't require ID,but they are still heavily secured such as the Congressional building.I did remember seeing a single CBP[Customs & Border Patrol] SUV around the Rayburn building when en-route to the Russell building but he appeared to be asleep at the time. Some sites require everyone to simply go into selected groups[of 4-5 person] through metal detectors at the most.

Hey i live in the area and you have nothing to worry about in alexandria. you do not need an id to get into the senate buildings and congress. but you need an id for the white house because they do random searches. the smithsonian is no problem as well as the national mall. there is no ice in the area but you see more federal agents from other departments that can detained you as good as ice. to summarize, have fun d.c. wont be a problem.
