I am fairly new to this website. I have often just looked around, and I love the inspiration that many of the members give to other people. Well I just want to tell you guys my story...and maybe rant a little bit about the unfortunate circumstances that we all are going through..

I was born in Mexico, brought to the United States when I was around 4 years old. I started school here, grew up here, and well I'm still living here in the US. I'm currently on a tourist visa, not expired yet, but it will pretty soon. You know, I think that I have truly immersed myself to the American culture, and when i think about the future, I think that it is the worst possible thing that I could have done. I love the opportunities that were offered to me here in the states, but what if something never happens and we never fix our status? I am certainly not going to stay here and just be working under the shadows. So because there is a possibility of going back to my country of origin, I feel scared and anxious about the future and how hard it would be to adjust to a new life in a new country where I don't even know many people.

I graduated from high school, top in my class. I'm going to an ivy league university this fall, but because of this, I am truly fearing my future even more. I recently read an article about the young man who is at Harvard and has just graduated, but is unable to do anything w/his life because of his status. I am scared that is what my life is going to come down to if something does not happen in the next four years. I had commented on a post recently about college, and I truly do want college/aspiring college students in high school to know that there is always going to be someone good out there at the university level that will accept you for what you can contribute to society. I hate seeing people give up on their dreams of attending their dream university cause they are scared of what their undocumented status is going say to the admission officers.

Sometimes I just feel like giving up on life completely. I am being serious. I don't find a point in so much struggle, but my optimistic thoughts tell me that I know that we will definitely succeed one day. All of us. We have to go work together, go through this together in order to overcome our obstacles. That is the only way that we are going to remain in this country. As for now...we just have to let destiny guide us a bit and help us with the situations that we can not fix. I admire you guys for being such strong and helpful people to those that struggle more w/their current situation. ! I hope this reveals a bit of my story.

i love that you said that and thanks for saying it. i've been there.. A MILLON TIMES. i also read the article on the kid who went to harvard, and it is horrible that such a smart person can become so powerless because of the simple fact that they are here illegally.

i really admire your courage to tell us all about your story. you've obviously worked really hard for what you have accomplished and should definitely not give up. make the most of your years in your new college.

on a happier not, are you excited to start college?

You've obviously worked VERY hard to get to where you are in life. God knows how many of us would LOVE to be going to an Ivy League school! You still have a minimum of 4 years to go, make the most of those years and take advantage of all the opportunities you will encounter. Hopefully, and more than likely, we will get the opportunity to fix our legal status within those 4 yrs.

Btw, what Ivy League will you be attending?

I dont even know you, but I can tell you that I'm proud of you! And that I admire your hard work and efforts!

Well thanks for those great responses. I really and truly do appreciate it! This is one of the only places that I can go on to find people that are going through the similar situation, you know? Most of the time I can't really confide in others what I am going through.

to answer yours guy's questions...I am definitely really excited to start college! I mean, it is going to be a new experience and I can't wait to meet all the new people! I love learning and stuff, so it's gonna be interesting to challenge myself theese next four years! I'll be going to Cornell next month, hkk24. Thanks for being proud of me! I know I don't know you, like at all, but it really does mean a lot! Sipossiamo, I've been there too w/that situation. Not necessarily w/college, but w/other things like having a job or just being really open in society cause of my fear. We all fear, but we shouldn't let it bring us down.
loquito 23, you know, i have researched about that, and i did speak to an immigration lawyer. i would have to leave the country, and request a visa at the consulate. it is too hard, and too risky for what he told me. i could also try to change my imm status w/in the US, but that could also have some repercussions. the reason that they r so strict w/student visas is because that is how the 9-11 terroists came to the us. on student visas.

Wait a minute, that means you're not here illegally and wouldn't face a ban for leaving the country. I would go back and apply from there, personally.
