Well, I graduated High school and I got accepted into a private university in my state and I thought that would be the hurdle of the process, since I believed that getting a loan wouldn't be difficult. Unfortunately, it is and I have a 14,000 dollar annual tuition bill glaring at me with panic setting in. I tried applying CitiAssist once I called them and confirmed that people who are undocumented can get this loan with a US co-signer. The representative said yes. Well, turns out like that lady didn't know anything about the loan since my co-signer and I filled out the online application and I suddenly need to provide a VISA or a I-20 from my university. Excellent! Now, I look like a halfwit in the eyes of parents, co-signer and my reference. Not only that, but I might be in danger of having to miss starting college this year, which is something I would horribly regret since I have longed to go for months now after my summer orientation. Does anyone know of any banks that are willing to grant a loan to illegals with a US co-signer?

yeah... i just called them, apparently online is the only way to apply and they need to have INS verification before they complete a payment to the school in question, thus a student visa and/or I-20, since as an international student you do not have a SSN.

Why don't you work for couple of years, save some money and pay for it? Better yet, why don't you go to a cheaper community college?

Why do you think you're entitled to expensive private education?

Because private education is the safest path towards a reputable 4 year education for dreamers out there. Unfortunatley most states do not give in-state tuition, making it hard to go to a four year university/college.

Of course, I am assuming that Ytrewq is getting some sort of scholarship to have the cost of tuition be 14k per year. However if that is the cost with out any sort of financial help, I would have to agree with Sonawabich, consider going into community college instead, it is far cheaper, and its actually a good strategy. Many people take their first two years in community college then transfer to a better school to complete their education.

I am currently paying 17k per year (last yeat it was only 11k) but I had to weight in the 50k scholarship over 4 years compared to community college to come to the conclusion that the deal I got was really pretty good and the schools resources would be something I could not find in a community college. Unfortunately I could not have anticipated the 6k increased cost due to the crumbling economy .

Here is an idea I have been wondering about, leave of absense. Some schools are strict with that and some are very lenient. My school is the lenient kind allowing students to take a leave of absence no questions asked for up to a year and securing any scholarship they got during the leave of absence. I would however suspect that you have to attend at least a semester to be able to take a leave of absense to the tuition problem still lingers. In the end it will all be until the DA passes, then you would be able to secure federal students loans (as mentioned in the DA). Also look into a payment plan.

well that is all I have to say, good luck with whatever decision you come up with.

There was no reason for this thread to be created. There is already a loan thread. But whatever, when I was noob I did the same thing.

Alright, go to usbank.com
I believe you can get a cosigner for the same deal.
Try them and let us know what happened.

PS. if you're to lazy to look for it, go to the "loans we can apply for thread"

Well, this may only be a temporary solution, but why don't you apply for credit cards and use those to pay for tuition?

I'd rather skip a semester and just work to save up money to even consider a credit card.

Sources: A lot of my family is in the financial business.

What am I entitled to in this country? Nothing. I have worked my butt off throughout high school and managed to attain a $74,000 dollar scholarship for the four years from the university that I applied to, due to my grades. If I resign from the university I will lose my scholarship.

Shouldn't that be enough?

Well, perhaps I phrased that incorrectly but I meant that I received a 74,000 dollar scholarship which is divided equally between the four years. Therefore, 74,000/4 = 18,500 per year.
