Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone here is currently attending graduate school / professional school or has taken one of the follow tests: MCAT, GRE, OAT, DAT standardized examinations.

MCAT's, DAT's and OAT's from my knowledge and research require you to have primary ID's (which are passports or government issued) in addition to secondary ID (credit card, library etc...)

My issue is secondary ID is ok...but for Primary..im assuming they wont just accept a college ID...has anyone even been through this recently? Also from reading the test guides via their respective websites, It says they fingerprint and photo for security purposes....

Can anyone give any insight to this? Though i am about 1-2 years away from applying and sitting for these exams, need to know early to determine whether i should go forth or take an alternate route before i am eligible to sit for something like this.

Thanks.

someone had asked an eerily similar question as yours in that thread and CVLAW1 answered it. His response was regarding the LSAT, the law equivalent of the MCAT which also asked for fingerprint and government ID.

It would be my assumption that the fingerprint option would be to identify that you are the person taking the test and not some impostor passing for you, as for the a government issued ID I would assume that a foreign passport would still be allowed as their primary interest would be the picture and name matching the person taking the exam.

^with the GRE's, which I took, if you were taking the test in a country you were not the citizen of you had to use your passport as the form of ID.

When I took the MCAT last month, I used my passport as my ID. No problems, no hassles, no anything. The finger printing was simply to prevent any sort of cheating.

I had worries at first, but there was nothing to worry about.

For example i believe on my Debit card or credit card..might not have my middle name listed..how much conflict would this be? (it specifically says everything has to match)..if anyone can PM me or something so we can discuss this more i would be appreciative.

Also worried a bit because of the fing.printing because i do have an SSN ...and thats all..would this in any way put me in any type of "danger" ? Or keep me in some type of record that can hurt me later on? (my conditions here are a bit complicated unlike most people on this site)
Yes, you will be fine.

I thought the same thing in respect to your next question before I took my test. The MCAT states the name you sign up with must match the one on the ID. I debated if I should put my middle name or not, but ended up not doing so, since they only care that your first and last name match your ID, not middle. Well, at least for the MCAT, I am not sure how similar other tests are.

Your last concern is reasonable, but fingerprinting is only used for signing in and out. Basically as a way to make sure someone doesn't take the test for you if you take a break.
I'm not sure what you specifically mean by your situation being unlike others, but if you mean you overstayed your visa and got a social security number during the 90s, then I am in a similar situation as you. Since I am still here, there shouldn't be any problems. Also, undocumented students have taken these test before, and nothing happened to them. If you have some sort of deportation order against you due to a failed asylum case, I'm not so sure about that, but I doubt they will give your fingerprints away or anything.

If you need more specific information, just pm me.

I took the GREs for grad school and ended up not needing the scores for my program. what a waste of $200+ dollars.

anywho, I used my Mexican consulate i.d. card without a problem. Good luck!
