Hey, I was born in San Luis Potosi Mexico, I lived there for the first 8 years of my life. One day my mom packed a small backpack with only necessities and told me I was going to be able to finally see my dad, a person i mainly knew from photographs. From San Luis we took a bus to a border town of Mexico, we walked and met the coyotes at a hotel. The next day we walked some hours finally arriving at the Rio Bravo! There was a male 2 females and a kid (me). We stripped to our underwear and the smugglers inflated the innertube of a tire. We crossed being pushed by a man. I layed on top of a teenage girl who layed on top of my mother. After crossing, we took a bus to Houston. However that same night in the middle of the road, border patrols stopped the bus, sent my mother back along with many others. She was taken to a jail and was kept there for 2 days. During the whole process i slept so i only noticed my mom was gone in the morning, I was afraid a knew the only person i could turn to was the girl. She was also heading to Houston. We arrived and a very nice lady picked us up. Not really knowing where i was going i stayed in a motel with some adults and some teens. There was a knock on the door and there he was, my dad. Just like the pictures! I ran to hug him and he took me to a house. My aunt who was also living in Houston working for rich people saw that it was not suited for me to live with my dad, not untill he found a better home for me and him to live in. My aunt took me in for a couple of days sneaking me in and out of the mansion she worked in.( she was the housekeeper who live there). A week later my mother arrived and I was so glad we could be a family again. SO far I'm a senior and hope to become an architect. I attend Yes College Prep, One of the top rated schools in America (i'm not bragging, look it up) which has helped many students in my situation! It's an awesome middle/highschool whose goal is to send each and every single one their students to college! SO this is my story guys, If you read the whole damn thing i appreciate your time for listening. A pretty funny thing is that a girl in my senior class is just like me. We actually lived on the same street our first days in the country! Once again thank you!

I'm glad you got reunited with your mom, and it's a great thing that you're in a good school. Make sure to take advantage of all the opportunities given to you.

Thanks guys, those are memories I couldn't forget! Just this summer I rode my bike south of downtown Houston and visited the hotel in which I first saw my dad, what a ride life is!

Hey Atums. welcome to DAP. Take advantage of all the opportunities given to you. I'm from Mexico too and my story is kind of similar to yours. You're right, things like these will never be forgotten. I still remember every detail of my journey to the US.. It's something I will always remember. Oh and I'm a senior in high school too! Seems to me that there are a lot of high school seniors on the forum. Good Luck with college next year!

Welcome fellow Houstonite. There is a DREAM Act coalition in the Houston Area if you want to get involved. There is also a DREAM Summit come September 12th if you're interested in finding out more about college opportunities.
