Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum, so I think I should introduce myself a little. My name is Gloria, and I live in Texas. Seems like a lot of the fellows here are from Mexico...so please don't discriminate, since I am originally from Taiwan.

Like most of you guys, I came here when I was 14. However, I didn't come here with my parents. They got divorced when I was 3, and I've been living with my grandma since. My aunt decided to bring me to the states, because grandma was too old to take care of me. I went through junior high and high school, without knowing that my aunt was never able to adopt me (I got in with a visitor's visa). She needed my dad to give up custody in order to adopt me, but my dad was nowhere to be found (I've only seen him a few times in my whole life too).

So it's not until I was filling out my college applications, that I found out I had overstayed my visitor's visa, and I've become an illegal immigrant. I never got my SSN, and I couldn't get my driver's license either.

Right now I am 27...I was lucky to get through with college since Texas is the only state that did not require a SSN on the application. But even if I got a masters degree in Accounting, I was still unable to get a job. I've been working at my aunt's friend's restaurant as a waitress since I graduated...and everyday I ask myself, "how long am I going to be wiping tables?"

And those people who dressed up so nicely, thinking they are so much better than you...how long do I have to serve them?

What they don't know is, they are just lucky that they were born here. They shouldn't take anything for granted. If I had that piece of paper...I would be so much more humble than they are right now.

Anyways, that's my story, a much shorter version.

It's good to know that I am not alone...I am trying to get my friends to help me call in to support the DREAM Act. Let's get it passed!
