Hi my name is Blanca and I am 21 i came here to texas from mexico when i was about 3 1/2 years old. I have a 3 1/2 year old son and live with my boyfriend, the dad, whom i have not been able to marry because of my situation here. I live in texas right now but i am planning on moving to washington state this coming week because my bf lost his job here and could not find another one, I too lost my job and so we are going to see what happens over there. Another reason that influenced me to move was the new law in texas that they passed about driving w/out a license. I am eagerly awaitng my mom's time to become a resident which they say will happen in about 1 year so that then we can continue on to my case, but i must say that i am becoming impatient and sometimes lose hope....but hopefully something will happen soon...i hope i get to meet some of yall.....!!

From the sounds of it, your bf is also undocumented, however, I do not see how that would pose an obstacle towards getting married, just a little curious.

As for your parents residence status, facing something similar, parents are now residents, however, the wait time can be considerably lengthy for a resident petitioning a son/daughter over 21 (or is it over 1. In any case, according to one of my lawyers it is possible to start the process as a resident, and when the parent becomes a USC the process would be accelerated in the petitioning process as if a USC parent had petitioned you, it could be anywhere between 6-8 years after the parent attains the resident status (5.5-6 years for a resident to have the ability to apply for USC {USC btw is United States Citizen}), however, its some hope. I would verify with a lawyer, to be sure this is actually possible, as I mentioned it was one lawyer that mentioned this and in my experience some have been wrong about some things, he did say some encouraging things about being able to get the DL with the documents stating that there is a petition process going on and this is a lawyer in FL. Sort of the reason why I do not say he is correct is that as far as I know FL requires you to be a resident to apply for their DL, but if it is possible, then great it will be my alternative route if the DA or CIR does not take place soon.

again good luck and welcome to DAP.
