So basically I'm moving to Texas Dec 31, with my friend. Her mom had a similar story to mine so she is taking me in. I'm going to work for a magazine company and get paid more than my current job. I currently work part time-full time and take five 3 credit classes at my community college. Is it easy? hell no. I have no time for nothing anymore, but hey sacrifice is needed. Good thing is I already finished one of my classes, and almost done with one (just need to turn in two papers and I'm done with that class as well). I plan to take online classes from my community college (four 3 credit classes) for next semester so I don't have to pay no out of state tuition.

I told my aunt all this and told her I was going to move to texas and that I was leaving by airplane, then she told me I couldn't. She told me that once when she went to texas and left it by airplane to arizona that the agents asked her that if she knew her Alien # if they asked her. She said I won't be able to do it.

Is it true? I have verified my sources over and over but you can never be too sure!

I just buy an airplane ticket and use my passport as an ID. I get nervous around the security checkpoint in case they flip to my empty visa page, but other than that, it's easy.

they'll ask you occasionally "how come you don't have any visa in here"

you just tell them "I just renewed it, the visa is in my old passport" (which u are obviously not carrying with you at the moment)

I actually don't know too much about how visas and passports work (I've never had a visa that I consciously knew of...). Is that really a valid thing to say? I thought foreign passports must be renewed in their country of origin.

no, you can go to your country's consulate in this country and get the passport renewed. But what I wonder is if they look at the visa and if they have to somehow account for it in the new passport, that's my question.

geronimo, did you actually say that you just renewed the passport IRL as your excuse for not having a visa on the passport?

My main fright of riding airplanes is simply the checkpoint. My only form of ID is my passport currently, so it would be a blessing if that excuse was valid.

it is valid... I tried it 3 times. The tsa only asked me once. most of them dont even bother asking, tsa job isnt to find illegall immigrants.... had a friend who was a tsa for years and talked to him about it as well, it's just not part of their training..

Yeah its a viable excuse. At my consulate you need to bring a notirized proof of your PR even when you have a stamp/GC with you. Basically, I think they need to resend your passport through the proper channels in the Department of State(I believe) since they cannot print the Visa for the US government. You wait longer for your passport and some people choose not to do it and bring 2 passports to any internation checkpoint.

You can also say that you're a student/tourist and the one with a visa is in a safety deposit box because you are afraid of losing it, and you just use this one as a form of ID, but then again as a student you are entitiled to a DL in most states so it is a risky excuse. I would either just go with the passport renewal excuse or not fly at all.
