alright, if you are a nursing major or you have a nursing degree and you are a dreamer, I found out some infos that you may or may not know already.

I didn't know it before so this is bit helpful.

In some states you can take the NCLEX and receive the license without SSN. This happens often, many nurses from Philippines does this. There are few states like Oregon and Arizona that allows it. I saw the affidavit form on Arizona board of nursing site that says you can just sign the affidavit and get the license. So YES!!! we can get take NCLEX and get a license without SSN!!!! we just can't work... we can take that and go to school in that state, despite the expensive out of state tuition, and receive a BSN!!!

that may or may not be possible or even helpful... but even if you have ASN and a license... u can take that and go to universities in Canada or even Australia for a transition program (RN to BSN) as an international student and get sponsored after.

now I am still researching/ emailing schools about that possibility but it seems possible so far to be able to go to Canada as an international student and further your ASN into a BSN (I saw few schools offering such programs) and get sponsored after. This may mean taking out a loan and having a friend cosign for you etc, it's not exactly an easy way out. However, personally this gives me some hope/ back up plan, in case Dream doesn't work out.

This is true. My friends cousin did the same thing, she used her ITIN where you are suppose to input the SSN. I am still thinking about Nursing or Radiation Therapy as my major. But thats interesting about how you can do that and go to Canada. How about the LPN to RN bridge. Do you know of any schools that offer that in Canada?

Thanks for confirming that it can be done with an ITIN ED,where there is a will there is always a way.

I'm glad you found a way geronimo610,but not being allowed to work shouldn't be a much of a problem if you can be under Schedule A,remember. You can get an interim Employment Authorization document while your application for Schedule A permanent residency is pending.Usually it only takes ~3 months for EAD documents to process so it should allow you to work for the employer eventually. The MAIN problem is just to have a willing Hospital, clinic or retirement home to sponsor you through Schedule A.

I did some research & found that Schedule A visas are gone as soon as they are available due to the backlog for Registered Nurses, but a more important question is would an individual have employment authorization during the entire process until a Schedule A visa is available if their application is backlogged ?

........

The MAIN problem is just to have a willing employer to sponsor you.
you're welcome. Btw, she was able to do this in CA. She graduated from a school in the Philippines and came to CA to take the NCLEX exam. As far as employers sponsoring you, this is where networking comes in, making the right connection can land you the job and sponsorship. I was wondering if you this would work for the NCLEX-PN course as well.

I saw a lot that was offered to Canadians... not sure if they have one for international student.

http://www.care4nurses.org/courses/ this website/ group is the one helping internationally educated nurses come to Canada. It's all different per province, it's almost like a whole new country/ system for each province so you have to research and email a whole lot. I still haven't got an email back from them yet so I am not even sure if I qualify for any of these programs. However, from first glance the prospect of going to Canada as an international student and transitioning my license or degree seems like a decent possibility, I will keep you guys updated.

that's interesting... so you mean IF I can get a sponsor I can technically be able to apply for Schedule A under 245i and be able to work while that is being backlogged? Hmm... I am going to have to talk to a lawyer, a good one, maybe Mark Silverman in San Francisco... probably in 3-6months or so just to see if this is possible.

But I don't think a hospital will sponsor someone who doesn't have any experience... plus if I am getting my license from Oregon or Arizona, that means I would have to find a sponsor in Oregon or Arizona because I can't transfer my nursing license until I have SSN! which means all connection is out the window.

I heard the nursing visas or schedule A is backlogged and still processing 2002 ones, gasp!!!!!! .......... that's an ancient long worth of a time for a nurse without an experience to be waiting, I don't think any hospital wants to hire a nurse with a degree that's 5 years old and no experience.... if 5 year is the minimum waiting.... that is....

Oh ok, I will try emailing them as well. Even if i have to go back to my home country, I am willing to wait, so I can get a job out there. One other thing, is it possible to graduate from another state with the Nursing program, and then take the NCLEX in Arizona or Oregon?

yep, I believe so it is a national exam so u can actually transfer the test result for a small fee. lot of phillipino nurses go through this to immigrate here and lot of them are waiting for 5+ years to get sponsored, they talk about it on allnurses.come

some of them keeps renewing their licenses and come transfer their test result of nclex to another state and gets a license from there!

Where did you find this information? Do you have a website I could go to?
I'm a little suprised because I'm a dreamer from AZ who was studying for nursing and most community colleges and universities (for BSN) require background checks and fingerprinting documents to apply for the program--which is the reason why I couldn't go thru with it. Luckily, the prereqs I took were enough to get me associate degrees in arts and general studies so that's the only thing I settled for.

If you have a website regarding this information, will you please PM it to me? It would really really help a lot to know I actually have other options.
