...the fastest way to become a resident/citizen is to marry a citizen....

I was told about this in 2005 while trying to see if there was a way for me to get a DL.

Still not married AND w/o a DL.

It's true in some sense. I've been offered marriage by a lot of my friends @__@ (I've told quite a lot of friends, close professors, and close teachers), but I'm currently dating an international student. Also, I don't think it would be right to marry someone for a green card.

Just to clarify, that'll work only if you entered legally (e.g., visa).
But if you entered illegally, then you have to go back to your home country and ask for a pardon, and wait until (if!) they give you one to enter the US legally this time.

My WHOLE family that are in the US are AMERICAN CITIZENS and they have been trying to get me to consider getting married...I feel so much pressure from that end yet for me it's just not right with who I am.

same situation, except my parents are at the moment PR and sis is the USC. My parents where trying to get me to look at that option for a while, but they pretty much stopped when they learned that the neighbor just got caught, i have not heard it since.

BTW, let that be a lesson, don't marry for the green card, marry for love... now that neighbor that has been working hard to sent her daughters through college will most likely deported and banned forever. (btw, in case you were wondering they found several inconsistencies between him and her partner, their stories did not match in various occasions).

Ive thought about it several times.. because I mean if the dream act doesnt get approved what now? its risky and scarry marrying someone for their green card.. I know a couple who are being watched because the gov. wants to see if its legit.

awww...you guys are making me feel.... well,... normal again. I thought the whole marrying for love had gone the way of the dinosaurs (kind of like religion).

But anyway, yes, doctors, advisors, lawyers, teachers, peers, my mom (who is a total christian nutcase) have all hinted to get married w/a citizen for the purpose of a green card. Oddly enough, I don't like the idea of marriage too much and even question whether I will at some point, won't consider it 'til my mid 30's at least.
