Hey guys....

I called the IRS to request for a letter of authorization for my ITIN number since I never got one when it was issued to me. I don't know how much iformation they know of visa status...etc....but I got my records updated with my current US address and apparently, before they updated it, the address I had was the one from my home country. My parents applied for it for me before we migrated.

Just wondering, will this cause any problems with them knowing I now, and still, reside in the US? They didnt' ask me for anything else but just an update of my address.

Sorry....I'm just a bit paranoid. I think some can relate.

IRS is a government department that collect tax, right?

Well, as far as I know, I don't think they will.
I have a friend who is undocumented, or he over-stayed in US. He got a job, went to school, though I don't know how he did.

But he told me that when he said he didn't have a SSN, IRS gave him a 9 digit number that resembles to SSN. Which gives him a "chance" to pay tax. He's been doing it for a long time and he's still safe.

But that's what he told me and I am not sure about it.

The IRS doesn't really care about your immigration status, they care about you reporting any income and paying your fair share of taxes.

As of right now, the IRS doesn't coordinate with ICE or Homeland Security. If they did and got you deported, how would they get any your money in the present fiscal year and in future years? Duh ... Common sense. It's all about the money.

Pretty much what Dreamerhippie said. IRS is only concerned with what money you have to offer. I have an ITIN number as well as my sisters and it has caused none of us problems.

Ok, thanks guys. I was just worried that they would report me knowing I currently have a US address. I'm wondering how much do they really know of our status.
