I know it depends on the private office and the management but what i was wondering is if you could say that you're an independent contractor? or freelancer? i dont know if that's the right word, but what im trying to say is that if you could say that you work for yourself meaning that they won't take out taxes. So they give you that form 1099? and you pay your taxes yourself. Is that possible to do? Or how could I go about getting a job at a Doctor's Office? I really want to work at a Doctor's office. More specific a Dentist's office.

If you are undocumented, then you are not legally allowed to do work in exchange for monetary compensation; I mean this in the strictest sense too.

Well its all about connections. Basically, who you know that can get you these kind of jobs or help in a way. I don't know if a 1099 form would work but I can tell you this. About a year ago my uncle told me about his dentist who was looking for a help around her office, cleaning materials, and help with dental procedures as well. My ass just pounced on that opportunity. So my uncle had a talk with her and told her about me being undocumented. She asked for me to come in to her office and asked me a few questions. Such as if I can stand the sight of blood or if I was well mannered etc...and pretty much gave me the thumbs up. It was a pretty great experience for me. I wouldn't doubt it would be for you as well seeing that you would really like to work in a dentist office.

So all in all. Connections!..lol..If you know anybody working or have some type of bridge towards dentistry, have a talk with them and maybe they can talk on your behalf.

p.s. My friend told me of her friend who is also undocumented that works at a doctors office. She didn't tell me how though.

Don't get discouraged though, make a real attempt at it. =)

p.s.s And one more thing. If you do manage to work in a dentist office or any other one for that matter. Remember to keep it real hush-hush of your status for any reason. Its probably obvious what I'm saying but the dentist told me she herself could get into real trouble if someone were to have found out that I was working there. Good Luck!

It is obvious that one can find a way to work in various places. However, it is not possible to do it legally...

Yeah. thanks for the encouragement. I want to work at a Dentist's office because I'm prob going to be a dental hygienist or Dentist and I figured that by working in a dentist office it will help me gain some experience. I'm planning on taking this Dental Assistant class. But im still scared ahh! oh well, i guess I have to take risks and this is gonna be the beginning! LOL. So you're currently working in a dentist's office?

Precisely, yes your correct. I should have made that clear on my post. Or it could have been a better idea of sending him a message. I forgot that its against the rules. My apology's.

Hey don't think nothing of it. =) This opportunity came exactly at the same time when I wanted to work as a Dental Assistant. Although since then I had a change of heart career-wise, its still a great career more so if you want to continue on the field of dentistry and become a dentist or a dental hygienist like you do. I recommend it to anybody.

Now as to am I currently working in dentist's office? That's a no. I worked for a good month and half until one morning Dr.Fung(dentist) told me she was moving and pretty much gave me the boot. lol. It was a great experience throughout though.

technically you can work at any setting--doctors office, restaurants, babysitting, house cleaning, etc--as long as you have connections....aka those who are wlling to pay you in cash or under the table. A friend of mine...a USC, mind you....work as a DJ in a night club and he's handed cash, so if I had a good relationship with the owners like he did, I could've had a job in that place too.

aww man that sucks! yeah, so like every day i check the newspapers and there are always needing Dental Assistants for private offices. There was one that they needed a full time assistant and they were willing to train! but since im in my last year of High School i couldnt call and ask for more information =( But i dunno. im still scared to call whenever i see the ads cause i dunno if theyre gonna ask for a background check and stuff.
