I'm trying to get some reference letters together in order to be accepted into USF.. I spoke with a lady at USF and she said you must have a visa, 1-20 or 1-94 to attend. I told her I know many students who don't have papers and attend public colleges and I told her obviously without being an American citizen I wouldn't be okay for financial aid and id have to pay in full before every semester or if they would like to give me financial help Id gladly accept.

She told me the prices (like if I was an out of state student) $515 per credit hr.. meaning every semester (4 months) if I took 9 credits Id have to pay $515x9= $4635 every 4 months.. which is a RIDICILOUS amount and I prob cant afford that. Now if I got in state tuition it be 130$ per credit hour and that I CAN do... what are reference letters or what CAN I SAY to make my case and be able to attend without having to sell a leg and an arm. Help?

USF- Tampa Florida.
Hcc- Brandon Florida.
both public colleges.

well I tried going to a private college and they said HECK NO you need a valid visa or an i-20... my best bet is USF or HCC and I CAN NOT afford those ridiculous amounts per credit hr .. gimme a break.. seriously I'm paying you the dang money let me attend your gay school. ah!

If this makes you feel better, I'm paying more than $980/class (about $245/credit) at shitty MDC.

I heard that Florida wasn't a very immigrant-friendly place.

Look for school websites that say things like this (edit: Basically, look into their financial aid policy for international students. If they seem open-minded about giving aid to international students, chances are they'll more readily lend you a hand if they deem you worthy.):

Other than that, I really don't know what advise to give you.
Parents should have thought of how florida was an unfriendly immigrant location before moving here 10yrs ago. Not like I can get up and move.. these things are expensive. ah Im gonna go to USF and HCC see if what they say and if not.. oh well I tried.

You should go and talk to your counselor about your situation.

I told my counselor and he said that he's had students in the past and that they got bright futures! He told me that we use our florida ID # instead of our SSN.

I'm stuck at the visa part too though, so I don't know. You'd have to contact the college reps and talk to them.

I'm also applying to MDC honors. You should check it out. I know several people that go there and I'm sure some are from this forum.

UPDATE:

Called the schools again. apparently Florida aint immigrant friendly... now they are allowing undocumented students..BUT whatever you do you aint getting any benefits like IN state tuition (which I can afford) so you get out of state tuition... 4 CREDITS (ONLY..4?!) is $3820 every semester and that DOES NOT include books... ya I deff cant go.. wayyy too expensive.

Hello everybody, since you all are talking about tuition at USF was anybody able to get admitted at USF with out-of-state tuition. I have a younger sister who will be graduating soon. I am really interested in getting her admitted to a university in Florida.

Thank You,
