Here's Scott Brown on Immigration. He probably won't vote for Dream:

Quote:
Immigration

I recognize that our strength as a nation is built on the immigrant experience in America. I welcome legal immigration to this country. However, we are also a nation of laws and government should not adopt policies that encourage illegal immigration. Providing driver’s licenses and in-state tuition to illegal immigrant families will act as a magnet in drawing more people here in violation of the law and it will impose new costs on taxpayers. I oppose amnesty, and I believe we ought to strengthen our border enforcement and institute an employment verification system with penalties for companies that hire illegal immigrants.

Don't give up guys. There's still ways to pass smaller bills without running through the Senate filibuster.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform took a hit tonight though but we'll see where that goes after tonight. Should I talk about possible strategies (for both CIR and Dream) out in the open or in a more secure area? I wish we had a special strategy forum only for allowed people.

This election was a disaster for democrats. No candidate should think they could coast to victory without campaigning. I thought a high enough turn out would overcome his problems, but seems that wasn't the case.

With regards to CIR, I think there is probably no way they would attempt it now. The good news is they may just try to pass something piecemeal.

"Amnesty" is a flexible definition that's open to interpretation. Maybe he would support something like earned legalization or Dream. Senator Graham doesn't support "amnesty" either but he does support CIR.

It's very doubtful that the Democratic leadership will be willing to tackle an immigration reform bill after this series of election losses. They might turn more conservative than ever.

Also, the health care reform bill should be passed within two weeks. Or, the Democrats need to find a way to go around or to pick up a vote from a moderate Republican. This means it might take more time, and that's not good for any next bill whether it is a financial reform bill or the Democrats' next priority. Of course, a financial reform bill won't be a problem because it will certainly get some Republicans' support.

Seriously. Americans, as a whole, have such a short term memory.

I just feel absolutely devastated. I don't know what will be of me in one year. Why does this have to be this way? It's just impossible to not get depressed; what's the purpose of living if we have to be like prisoners.

Is there any chance that congress can just vote on the DREAM Act if CIR does not get discussed?

I can agree with this assessment, plus this one Senate vote probably makes the playing field more difficult but there are still many things to consider concerning immigration for the forseeable future.Like what impact will the upcoming Census have & which State & party will potentially gain from the impact if there is to be a serious immigration effort in 2011 according to some sources?Immigration reform efforts are likely dead in 2010 as you suggested because I believe Democrats believed they had all the time to get things done with the vast majorities they had,but realistically there is only a positive & ambitious affect in the 1st Session of Congress....not the second from what I've seen so far over the years !

Imo,You can only defer governing with blame for so long.........& both Republicans & Democrats pay for it at the polls no matter the location.Imo,no statistic is able to correctly & currently measure dissatisfaction.

With the current Senate leadership,I am not so sure.It is also not really chances but opportunities when they present themselves that you take advantage of.Must pass legislation concerning education or the military would be good should it be possible to attach but that requires 60 solid votes which I think Dream act doesn't currently have at this time.
