I'm not sure if it's any better for DREAMers who are Hispanic and can talk freely about their status to other Hispanics or even people who are in our same situation, but I'm Brazilian and where I live there are no other Brazilians. I'm at my breaking point. I don't want to make American friends because I can't be open with them regarding my status, I don't want to deceive them every time the subject is brought up of why I don't have an ID or why I don't have a job someone my age should have. I don't want to be in a relationship with someone because, again, is it faithful to lie to someone you're involved with? What if I were to not to lie and it doesn't work out between us? What guarantee will I have that she will not take the vindictive route and let ICE know about me?

I've been in this situation for longer than I want to admit and is not really improving with time.

I know exactly what you mean....I've been lonely my whole life. I was lucky enough to find a girl I would have married in high school...but b/c of my status, I had to break it off. All I can say is, hang in there just like I am, try and concentrate on something. I concentrate on studying everyday, gives me excuse for not working, ID, no girlfriend, etc.

Where are you located? Maybe through this forum you will be able to find someone that can help you forget about your problem for a while.

I lived in florida about 8 years ago and I remember high school being pretty difficult. There weren't very many mexicans at my high school, it was full of puerto ricans, cubans, and whites. I remember I was embarrassed to speak spanish because I spoke it differently than all the other latin people in my area. You don't think about your status much in High School, except the last few years when you are about to graduate, it finally hits you that you won't be able to move on to a university, or get a drivers license, but I was thankful that I had family here in southern california, I moved over here and now I embraced my mexican culture and I've been able to pick spanish back up and move on with life. Although there might not be many brazilians in your area, I hope that you can find some comfort in the fact that you have this large support group that understands what you are going through, good luck and try and keep your head up.

Boa Sorte

Don't get so down on yourself. We're all feeling this way, at least I know I am. Ever since I got out of highschool it's been a struggle to make new friends. You just have to be open and fear nothing. Be fearless of the ICE, I believe that everything will happen for a reason. If I am deported then my future does not lie in this country, nor did it ever. There's a plan for everyone. Most importantly try to enjoy your life before you realize you've wasted most of it away.

Eu sou portugues, mas como os Brasileiros dissem, Belleza. =]

Finally, in my critique of the immigration image of America, it is also important to know that we're not only a nation of immigrants, but we are in some part a nation of emigrants, which often gets neglected.

I couldn't have said it better!!!! Although I struggle to keep this mentality I realize it's a must if i am going to survive. Be Fearless, like Pedrotto says, everyone!! Now that doesn't mean you go out and put yourself in dumb situations but it does mean that we cannot allow our situation to overrule our life We have to keep some control ... And even when you want to cry and scream, go ahead and cry it's natural but find something that will bring you back up again!

Wow, hun, I am Brazilian as well and if it serves of anything, I can tell you that I understand everything you've said and are feeling perfectly.
You should e-mail me, hun, so we can talk more. You don't have to be alone.
