Hello guys. I have a driver's license that will expire next year.

I've heard many stories of DUI/License check points where ICE is there to check on people without License.

My question is, if I do happen to go through a DUI/License check point, will the police actually run my license through the system and check my immigration status? or do they just ask for my license and just look over it?

If ICE is present at the check points, police/sheriffs only hand us over to them if my license is expired/don't have one right?

It seems like it will be too much trouble for them to run every license number that go through the check points.

Your driver's license does not have information on your immigration status so as long as you have one, there's nothing to worry about.

In what state is ICE at DUI checkpoints? There have been a lot of so called "DUI check points" in the Central Valley in CA, especially in small rural towns where the Hispanic population is especially high, is that what you're talking about?

Although I've never been to one, I've heard that there were DUI check points where if you didn't have a license or was expired, you are asked to pull over to the side where ICE agents are waiting to ask you questions, run you through the system etc.

Just a quick note from my experience in Florida.

I was driving with no licence one evening about 10:00 pm, and we are illegal or expired visa to be more exact comes to the same thing, I saw a DUI stop sign ahead and a small line of cars. I panicked and decided to do a U turn with wheel squealing unfortunately, but again just in panic mode. However after the noisy U turn I was immediatly stopped by a red light and sure the cops were going to follow and stop me, but nothing, I waited at the light for the green light (ages) and drove home.

Since then I have questioned why the police did not follow and all I can come up with is perhaps there is no law that we have to go to the DUI stop if we can turn off before even on a U turn... sounds too simple but if you get into the situation what do you have to lose?

They usually have motorcycle cops at the intersection to check people who are doing exactly what you did, i guess you got lucky.
