Good evening everyone, I apologize for starting an all new thread about Student loans as we have already discussed it here dozens of times. However, I am extremely desperate right now and want to give it my best before accepting defeat. I remember reading someones post in the past that he/she has a student loan. Can that person PLEASE share with me what it takes to be approved for a student loan. Just some background, I only need the funds for my last semester (Fall 2010). It is a private college and I do have an ITIN and US Citizen willing to cosign. Anyone know about Sallie Mae's Smart Option Student Loan?

I wish I could help with this... This might be a dumb question since you probably exhausted all your options, but since your college is private, have you talked to the international student's office regarding your situation? Not the financial aid office... Especially if you applied to school as an international student.

I never did a private loan outside of my college, so I can't really help with the particulars of your situation. I hope if I bump this up someone may be able to.

No, I haven't spoken to the international student's office. But, I really don't think they would be much help since I don't even have any I-20 or any visa of that sort, so I'm really not an international student. I'm just a domestic student without status. It seems like in order to be approved for any private loan, we will need some sort of INS documentation.

It depends on how you applied to the school (I never checked the U.S citizen box so I applied as an international student).

I don't have a visa either so the school obviously knew that I didn't have status. I wasn't an uncommon case (there were a couple others, but they didn't name names) either.

I would try your luck and ask them even if you didn't apply as an international student. They may have other loans/options or things they have done for others who were in a similar position.

Been told that both the student and the cosigner need a SSN from a US Bank rep. Don't lose anything in trying though, so I would.

Hi xav1er07,
Do you mind sharing in detail how USC pays for undocumented students? I got accepted to USC for Fall 2010, but the problem is money as usual. I have no idea how to start/approach them... :/
Thank you!!

well usually the international student office takes care of u......u can ask them they can cover ur full tuition but u have to be eligible what ever that means real high gpa or something else.....i know for a fact that in stanford if ur family makes less than 60 grand a year ur not expected to pay a dime.....but listen ask at the internation studetns office if they will cover ur full tuition every year change happens.....so be safe and talk to them before u make any decisions......
