I'm finishing up my BA in the spring of 11 and I'm thinking about going to graduate school. If I do get a Master's, can I apply for a green card?

If anyone has any information on this, please let me know.

P.S. I overstayed my tourist visa.

I don't think so. A lot of us overstayed our visas and would do this if we could.

No you can't. Even a job cannot petition a gc for you if you overstayed.

not really. you would have to be the best of the best and be able to work in some secret super-weapon sort of program. you will have to be the key to give the chevy camaro a 500hp engine that gives like 200mpg. you get the idea.

lol, i worked as an accountant with h1b visa for years, if you have a valid visa you can change to h1b and with a masters degree someone will sponsor you. If you have overstayed your visa, you can forget it because you need to get a new visa from usa embassy (located in your home country) and they will not let you back in for 10 years at the border once you try to come back. Anyway, all I am saying is that you do not really need to be some super scientists (of course it helps), but certain skills are in high demand that Americans don't find attractive (engineering, science, a lot of other industries too).

Not at the moment, but the current CIR bill in the works would allow you to get the GC faster if you get your masters from a university here in the US. I found an article that says that:
http://www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/459/721310

Quote:
Other components of the immigration reform are: the introduction of tamper-proof biometric-based employer verification ID system, a loophole illegal immigrants and some unscrupulous employers have used to forge social security and green cards; awarding of green cards to immigrants who receive master’s degree or PhD in science, technology, engineering or mathematics from a US university; expanding domestic surveillance to apprehend and deport aliens who commit crimes or overstay their visa, among others.

It completely depends,if you are under 245i and have a willing employer to sponsor you based on your educational qualifications.

everything is true. under normal circumstances, no. you would have to be very special. perhaps be like the next lebron james or you are the key for a super weapon that the military really needs and wants. otherwise, no.
