Without listening, seems an effort to get an edge over republicans. I don't buy they are to blame for no CIR, he did pass health care reform w/out a single republican vote.

I was wondering how Health Reform came to a pass, yet CIR seems like its on a different path.

Thats because they had 60 Dems then. With Brown being elected, they only have 59 now.

So, out of the 60 needed. only 59 are Dems. Therefore they need a Republican (at least ONE) to vote with them.

59+1= 60

Simple math, kids.

Corrections for all of the above:
1-The Democrats have 58 *members* in the Senate ,as I'm sure ALL of you know by now, Sen. Byrd passed away.
2-Not all Democrats support CIR on its face and need to be cajoled by leadership to vote "yes".
3-Insurance reform (aka, "health" reform) was passed thru reconciliation. See trickery abounds in law-making if you're really, really interested in making it happen.

And this last point is why Obama says he needs a handful of Republican votes, not just the two needed to make 60, and is the reason he mentioned the "11" Republicans who voted "yes" in 2007.
