Guess they're pointing fingers now eh!

Quote:
Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) - Republicans lashed back at President Obama Friday for his speech a day earlier that implied they were stalling progress on immigration reform.

Karl Rove, President George W. Bush’s former adviser, said Obama was trying to win Hispanic votes rather than seeking to reform immigration policy.
for the whole thing...

And this is just the nature of the whole thing. Going in circles over and over again.

I wonder how many lives will be ruined.

"Although several immigration reform bills have been introduced, Congress is not expected to vote on a new illegal immigration policy until next year, according to congressional insiders."

So, it looks like another year went by. I really thought that 2010 was going to see a change, but there is not even a bill in the senate yet. Last December, were you thinking the same thing?

Fool me once...

A dog chasing its tail looks cuter than these two parties.

Honestly, I don't give a you know what who is at fault here. In fact, I could not care less. All I want is something to be DONE. I don't care if it's by President Obama, the democratic party, the republican party, hell even if hell froze over and the tea-partiers wanted to help us, WHO CARES just do something! The blame game is no fun, specially when millions of lives are depending on a decision.

Yes, I saw Rove give an interview the other day. It was a very sad thing. He had a chalk board with dates when Obama spoke about immigration and he had it right in every single case and criticism, concluding that Obama had done nothing and that he only speaks about the issue when he thinks he can use it as a way to discredit the Republicans--without actually getting anything done.

Can someone explain to me what exactly Obama is expected to do? Chalkboards aside, isn't it Congress who is responsible for legislation?

Blaming Obama looks like a political move, because Obama can only make speeches and prod and poke Congress. He can't control or bully Congress, he can't overturn Republican opposition, he can't write or pass the bill on his own. This is the case with any president- he can't go beyond the limits of his office.

I just don't see how Obama is at fault here.

People are stupid in general. Have no idea how the government works.

He's not 100% to blame, but the president sets the priorities and the overall tone of what goes on. He could have given it a higher priority, but he obviously didn't. Right now, I think all the major players know they cannot go back to their home states (Calif, Nev, Ill) where joblessness is high and say that they used tax payer funds of any kind to help undocumented immigrants. So many middle class families have lost retirements and other savings/investments that anything perceived as helping those who should be here would cause a massive changeover this election. There are several ways to look at it, this is just one them.

Honestly, that's where I think the biggest challenge to the DREAM is. Most college educated Americans know that their tuition is highly subsidized by tax payer $. Giving undocumented students in-state tuition could easily be spun into "we can't give illegals more tax money!" Then most unemployed or underemployed people will vote DREAM Act supporters out of office.

didn't think my response would be this long

Well, a good start would have been to give the speech he gave last week a long-ass time ago, or better yet to have incorporated his ideas into the state of the union speech. Instead he had one measly 1/4 minute remark that said nothing.

He could also stop speechifying about the matter and actually push for tangible reform, like he did with health care reform. He is supposed to be the leader of his party, which still has massive majorities in congress. This also should have been an issue where he could get bipartisan support, unlike everything else he has made a priority of.

Furthermore, he is better at enforcing than Bush is. He reminds me of a parent that keeps telling you sweetly how much they love you after repeated beatings outside of the woodshed.
