Obviously, most of us (if not all) on here are undocumented. I've read the other thread about our status making it hard to date and whatnot... so would you date "one of our own" for lack of a better term? Be honest here. I'll go first. I have before but I think I rather not. I don't care if it sounds selfish or hypocritical, I'm just being honest. So what about you guys and gals?

Sure, why not. You never know under what circumstances you are going to meet that special someone.

I'll tell you something though. I've decided to be more upfront with people I date. From now on I tell them about my situation as soon as a relevant topic comes up, that way the cat is out of the bag. If they want me cool, if the don't their loss.

I wouldn't want to hold that against anyone and it'd be nicer in a way, because there's less pressure. But with that said I don't want to live most of my life without papers. I don't think I could make it unless we both thought about leaving the US if things don't work out here anytime soon. I'm tired of this already, and I can only make it through college here if things don't work out

It's a really tough call. By date, do you mean go out for a movie and dinner or have a relationship with?

For me, I always look at the person for who they are. (cliche, I know, but it really comes down to how the person treats you.)

It'll kind of be a perk cuz it's like at least he'll know the things I'm going through and not be embarrassed about it or have to explain myself.

No joke, my lawyer (kind of douchebag anyway) gave me this legal advice: "never fall in love with an illegal alien."

I think he was referring to the fact that marriage as path to legalization would no longer be a viable option for either one of us. But frankly, his "opinion" came off as really callous and insensitive.

Theoretically, the appeal of dating another DREAMer would be that they would be able to better understand your perspective, by having a shared experience and worldview. It's tough, even when friends of mine can't wrap the heads around all of the hardships of being undocumented. Try as they might, they just don't fully "get it." Maybe that doesnt matter to some folks. Maybe it does. It just depends on what your looking for.

Regardless, I would never, ever, ever date a republican, a social conservative, a xenophobe or a nativist...

My first thought was, "are you kidding me," followed by a slow-motion palm to my face.
Now I just find you interesting.
