Hello there, I have a question. First, are there any Dreamers out there that are EMT (Emergency Medical Technician)? If so how did you get licensed? I'm trying to take the EMT course to become an EMT but, what can I do for a background check and to get licensed if I don't have a SS# ??? The only thing that I have is a Tax ID #. Would I be able to use my Tax ID # to substitute for a SS# in order to get a background check and get licensed? Anything that you might know please do inform me. Thank you.

Well to start off you could tell us what state and county you are in.

Call them anonymously and ask if undocumented students can become EMTs

I became a EMT-B in NYC in 2005 when my immigration case was still pending and I was allowed to work and had a working permit. Then my case under my parents went down the drain and my work permit expired and in NYC if your an immigrant, your status shows on your driver license when your permit or status expires. When mine expired my employers couldn't keep me because you need a valid driver's license to drive an ambulance and if anything is expired on it, you can't work for them. Now I am in a Paramedic Training program and hoping something happens by the time I finish it. I already had SSN number so I guess I lucked out on that. But as For you I dont kow because we have a kid in our class who is visiting from Korea to learn how to become a paramedic and go back to Korea and he didn't have a SSN and he was ok.

Well, yea I already called and they said I can take the course but, to become licensed I would need a SS# for the background check. I'v seen post before on here about students getting licensed to become an RN and some have said they used their Tax ID #. So I figured maybe it would work to be EMT licensed. I guess not .....

Just FYI, I did the background check for my CNA class without using SSN. I just gave my full name and current address along with 20 bucks.

What state are you from? Also did you have to get certified or licensed?

MN. They needed background check for clinical portion of class, not certification.

I didn't get certification due to lack of SSN.

Because of America's broken immigration system, they just lost a CNA who passed his class with a 98% final grade and a recommendation from his teacher.
