Hi guys,
This is geronimo here. I use to post a lot here before. I am a nursing student in California, graduating in few months with Associates of Science in Nursing... so I posted here before that you can get your Nursing License with ITIN. Which was true before.. however, to my dismay the rules have changed in BRN (Board of registered Nursing) and will no longer allow it. We cannot even take the test without SSN.

Therefore, the only option I see is to take the NCLEX in Vermont and get a license from there and apply to a different RN to BSN program like Jacksonville University...

I will update more as I research... sad news....

This is sad news :/

So what will be your plan once you get your ASN since you won't be able to take the NCLEX? Will you move to Vermont?

I read this a couple of months ago and I was so sad too. Another roadblock... Please let me know how the Vermont thing goes. I did some research on it and it seems like they only accept people without a SSN if they completed their coursework in a foreign country (so the transcript has to be from another country and they probably check the passport/visa).

Again please keep us updated if you find anything different...

well I think you can fly there and just take the test and get the license... so that I can go get BSN via online program. I am still looking into the details into this though...

New York doesn't require SSN but they do require legal status... x.x one obstacle after another.

that seems likely as well... I can't seem to find a state where I can get a flipping license... wondering if using ITIN in Vermont is possible. Can't find enough information out there to confirm this. I guess I could just try it but it'll cost 100 dollars in application process.... etc.

are you in nursing school as well? This is going to be a head ache.... there are RN to BSN online programs that we can do if we just get a license... but that seems to be all the problem.

This is great news!! Did you tell them you were an international student or did you tell them you studied in a different state but have no SSN?

What kind of info do you think they can get from having your passport number? Aka, will they know you're here illegally? When will you be doing all this? Do you have to fly there to take the exam?

Please keep me updated on this, it's really important to me. Thanks and GOOD LUCK!!!

At the beginning of the semester, I was told that we could take the test, but they won't give us the results until we can prove we are legal. We have 2 years after we take the test to prove to them we have papers or we will lose our results. So we can't even take a look and see if we passed. Thats what I know. The BRN committee is coming to my school next year to renew our accreditation. I will find out more then.

ps: I'm in cali
