CIR or perhaps even DA seems to be going nowhere. We finally decided we would consult a lawyer on how we can legalize our status. My mom, who works for two doctors who babysit their kids (who both have heart problems) are willing to sponsor/petition her. She has been with them for nearly 7 yrs. So yeah, we will be filling out the questionnaire form and send it to the lawyers office by early next week.

The immigration lawyer's name is Michael Gurfnikel. He is supposedly one of the best immigration lawyers but very expensive but I guess it would be worth all the $$$ in the end. Needless to say I'm very excited.

I will update this thread as we progress for anyone interested.

Thanks

Good luck to you. I have had some very bad experiences with some lawyers in the past. Be careful of who it is you approach and make sure that whatever they submit on your behalf, you go over yourself. Do research on your category(eligibility, documents needed, duration, etc) it doesn't hurt to be knowledgeable. I hope all goes well.

I've heard really good things about Gurfinkel. I was wanting to go with him before but from what I remember, his initial consultation was like $200! Definitely update us!

Sorry to say this but unless you and your family are covered by I-245 you cannot adjust status in the country. We tried to do the same thing 4 years ago since my dad's employer was willing to sponsor him. We went to see a few lawyers that supposedly were really good but they said that we cant adjust status since we are not covered by this 245 thing and we dont have legal status like visa status. Anyways, let us know what the lawyer said. Maybe something changed. Good luck though!

Yea I don't understand the point of seeing these lawyers. Unless you're explicitly covered by current laws (in which case you don't even need a lawyer, do your own paper work and save money), what exactly do people expect lawyers to do?

Interesting... but we will still do the consultation. $300 is a small price to pay considering all the different possibilities of what could be gained. Our situations are different and won't really know the answer until we try. My family has nothing to lose.
