Yes, the bill will go to senate now. We don't know when Senate will vote on DA. It's likely that the bill will be changed a little bit before vote. If bill passes Senate, it stills need Obama's signature to take effect. Then, it'll take several months for the bill to take full effect.

up to 6 months wait for the bill to take full effect if it passes and Obama doesn't veto it for what ever reason.

We need Julian Assange's help more than ever to hack into republican hispanic's facebook statuses and make them say a supporting blurb in favor of the Dream Act. Just joking, however.

If the Democrats really think they have a chance of passing it in the Senate, they will probably use the House bill to avoid wasting any time to settle differences and vote again. However, they are likely to go with the Senate version according to the Senate website. The real problem is that to secure the passage of the bill, we need at least daunting four Republican votes, which is nearly impossible if you consider some moderate Republicans' current positions on the bill.

If the House and the Senate pass the same bill, the bill will go to President Obama who will certainly sign it. Again, he is not the problem now. The Senate is the problem because of the Republicans and a few Democrats who oppose the DREAM Act.

Also, if the DREAM Act fails to get 60 votes, it is highly unlikely to be brought up again during the lame duck session. In other words, it will end any possibility of passing a pro-immigration bill until the Democrats again gain large majorities in both chambers of the Congress.

Exactly, and only God knows WHEN Democrats will gain a large majorities in both chambers. Even if that happened in 2012 (which I doubt, unless the economy makes a GREAT progress by then) it doesn't entirely ensure that they will pass anything for they had large majorities for the past 2 years and they failed to deliver on the issue.

P.S.: Shouldn't this be in the Lounge?

Immigration will come back in 2011. Analysts have forecasted this and if Obama talks about it in the state of the union speech, it will certainly be laid on the table.

sorry... it'll go no where

The latest that CIR will come up is 2013. It's been Obama's strategy since Day 1 to bring up CIR in 2013. You could google for statement from Obama's chief of staff Ramh Emanuel.

No. Even if it comes back in 2011, it will be very harsh enforcement laws, not something like the DREAM Act or a comprehensive immigration reform bill. Also, once the Republicans take control of the House next year, President Obama will not be able to do much about his legislative agenda. Why would the Republicans pass what he wants to pass unless it is a tax cut bill?

If it doesn't pass this year here's my prospect of how things will unfold next. First, A Border Security Bill. Then, a comprehensive Immigration reform with the Dream Act amended.
