Why is Reid trying to pass the House. DA?

What I don't understand is that why would Reid try to pass the House Version?

If I understand correctly, the House version doesn't include the new stuff he added in S.3993 like lower age to 30, 10 years legal status and etc...

If he couldn't get the Republican votes on the new (watered-down) version, then how in the world is he going to get the Republican votes on the House. version??

There is some thread on here that has the exact language - but in many ways the House bill is at least as stringent as the Senate bill. In some ways maybe even stricter, and with fees added, which should make it more popular.

In any case, if the Senate passes the House version they do not need to do the back and forth compromising between two different bills that would take too long to be completed in the time frame they have.

Well, you're understanding wrong. The House version is even stricter than the one the Senate was trying to pass.

The new House version has the age cap to 30 now.

following the general concensus of the discussion, the house version had several amendments added to it that made it as stringent and perhaps even more stringent then the senate version.

Furthermore, the reason for Reid wanting to pass the house version is that it already passed the house and would go directly to the president to sign into law, the senate version, if it passed, would go to the house to be voted on, and if this is not finished by the end of the 111th congress the bill is essentially considered dead, and the whole process would have to start over again.

The house version is the best chance we have to getting a bill to the president to sign into law.

Does anyone know if there will be a vote to suspend the rules (skipping the house/senate conference) before the vote for cloture?

Reid, in my opinion, made a good move.....he is bringing up a tougher DA, and he's giving us more time to gather up votes....the house DA is super strict..now we have to pay 600 dollars for the application, after 5 years we gotta pay 2000 dollars.......we won't be able to apply for any stafford loans...under the senate DA we were able to apply to some of em (btw senate is S.3992..or was)...no retroactive benefits, age cap is 30...o yea...now we have to apply within a year of the law passed, the senate version said we had to apply within a year of being accepted into an institution....i think we have a better chance on monday than what we woulda had on wednesday.

I agree with you, although stricter i think the house version of the bill is a very solid candidate.
