"As the DREAM Act stalls in the Senate, a small majority of Americans say they support the path to legal status for people brought illegally to the United States as children.

In a Gallup poll released Friday, 54 percent of Americans said they would vote for a law that would create a route to citizenship for immigrants who had gone to college or served in the military. Forty-two percent said they would vote against the bill.

Support broke down along partisan lines. Among Democrats, 66 percent said they would vote for the DREAM Act, while 31 percent said they would vote against it.

Thirty-four percent of Republicans said they support the bill, while 63 percent said they were opposed to it. Nearly 60 percent of independents said they would vote for the law.

Gallup surveyed 1,003 adults by phone between Dec. 3 and Dec. 6. The error margin is plus or minus four percentage points.

______________________________________________________________

THAT IS UP TO 58% OF PUBLIC SUPPORT!!!

Date of Survey: DEC. 3- DEC. 6 , 2010

Democrats: 66% SUPPORT / 31% NOT SUPPORT

Independents: 60% SUPPORT / 40% NOT SUPPORT and NOT SURE

Republicans: 34% SUPPORT / 63% NOT SUPPORT

I believe it shows that the DREAM ACT still has wide range of support, both from REPUBLICANS and DEMOCRATS, and we should not get discouraged from hearing/reading negative articles and comments in the news.
We must find a way somehow to persuade more of the general public to support this legislation, along with their members of the congress from respectful states.

We should understand that most of the members are actually reasonable and sympathetic towards us, but they are in a very tight spot to decide, because they must at all times listen to their constituents back home.

Therefore, it is important we send out positive aspects of ourselves, at all times. Even a little negative impression can hurt us very much.
Unlike you and I, the voices of the american people can be heard much louder and can greatly influence their representatives at the hill, and we must use this ability to our advantage.

(PLEASE SHARE WITH US YOUR IDEAS ON HOW TO INCREASE PUBLIC SUPPORT)

Rather small sample size for a public opinion poll on a possible federal policy/legislation. Nevertheless, it exceeds half.

Can cite this as evidence (along with the First Focus poll) that the "majority" of Americans favour the Dream act when you call, fax, email, etc.

Maybe that's because Americans are ill-informed of the dream act. there are so much lies flying around about it.

Also we're not a true democracy, that's why we have elected officials. the public doesn't always know what is not best for them. the public can easily be misled and susceptible to thoughtless actions without looking at the consequences. for example, the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. a huge majority of Americans supported it and now the public detests it. the public is like a child and is not a very helpful measure on the RIGHT actions.

Screw this poll the American people obviously doesn't know what's best for them.

14% is not at SLIM Majority ! Those are really, really good numbers. Particularly with the Independents - that is fantastic that 60% of Independents are in favor. Who do you think it is that both parties need to get to vote for them ? What a great selling point !

You have to remember that outside of the DREAM Act there is a whole lot of other nightmarish economic and social upheaval going on for people. That a majority in a reputable poll still supports the DREAM Act is fantastic.

Sell It !

And 34% Republican voters support this, too. Unfortunately, the same proportion of republican senators don't support it.
