As many of you may already be aware, Bernie Sanders, the Independent from Vermont started a filibuster in the senate at 10:25 am ET, and it has been going since. While there is a possibility that it might fail, it has the potential of really doing some serious damage to the republican party and the president who signed up for a very bad tax cut deal.

Yesterday, all democrats in the house of representatives with the exception of 1 signed up to go against the President in his support for the tax cut deal he signed with the republicans, basically the tax cut will not hit the floor of the house of representatives. Today, Bernie Sanders started a filibuster against the deal.

How does this affect us, the DREAMer community, well, as far as I am concerned, the tax cut deal with have huge priority right now, and it has the potential of pushing back the DREAM Act, that is the down side. The positive spin to this, is that it will benefit the nation for the people to know what the republicans are backing and what the democrats are backing, and for the people of this nation to see how they are getting screwed by the republicans in order to give tax cuts to the mega wealthy.

This amount of attention that is getting diverted to the republicans is bound to really force republicans to compromise on a lot of stuff, it is awful PR for them, and recently they have been trying to add additional compromises to the tax cut package in the amount of billions of dollars that would be invested in renewable energy, electric cars, and the environment in order to appease the democrats, however, the Democrats have essentially said no-deal to that.

This is a really historic moment, last time it happened was in the civil rights movement of the 60s.

The republicans have already filibustered and denied several wildly popular bills with the american people, including DADT, healthcare for the heroic first responders of 9/11, unemployment benefits, $250 for medicare recipients, COLA adjustments for the elderly, and all because they want $700 billion for the wealthiest of americans, and $700 billion that will be paid by the middle class, the working poor and the elderly.

As of this moment the wealthiest 400 americans are paying about 16% in taxes due to all the and tax cuts deals they receive, and several fortune 500 companies are paying zero dollars in taxes while at the same time getting hundreds of millions of dollars in tax cut deals.

In other words, a billionaire is paying around 16% in taxes and the janitor working for the billionaire is paying 35% in taxes. The tax cut deal was also threatening to take out money from social security and accelerate the chance that it would go bankrupt.

What is going on here is what I envision as an upside-down triangle. For a long time republicans have mentioned that giving more money to the wealthiest will trickle down to the poor people, but its my feeling that the triangle they are seeing is upside-down. In reality, its my feeling that giving more money to the wealthiest americans will stay among themselves and go to savings account, while, giving money to the poorest, is just economic 101, they have money to spend on the products produced by the wealthy industrialist and that money goes from the base of the triangle that is up down, benefiting everyone along the way, and not a very large portion saved to bank accounts while being significantly taxed and giving more money to government to spend on infrastructure projects.

I write this here because this has a chance of affecting our future, if the DREAM Act does not pass for whatever reason, it was not looking definite yet, it will place many republicans on the spot and they might be more willing to compromise to bills that are reported to decrease the deficit of this country. But if it still does not pass, it benefits us that people are aware of the type of republicans that are running this country and how it does not benefit them, and the potential of a more prosperous future with less deficit will work in the favor of bills like the DREAM Act and CIR, and it will make it certain that this country does not go bankrupt and its still able to compete with the world economy.

So call senators in support of the DREAM Act, in support of what Bernie Sanders is doing, in support of increasing taxes on the wealthiest americans, decreasing taxes on the middle class and working poor and unemployment benefits for unemployed americans.

This is not a filibuster.

He's just giving a rather long speech haha

There aren't even any senators there to listen to him!

His letting everybody know how pissed he and most Americans are! Sanders is good liberal but if he successfully filibusters the tax deal the DA will most likely die.

Wow how about think if you want to be American, you have to care about other issues rather than Immigration.

I oppose the tax cuts for the wealthy, only the middle class and poor should have a tax break

DA is a Republican created bill. I am sick and tired of both parties playing with people's lives.

If this tax deal goes down, president Obama is going to shit his pants. No tax cut, no unemployment benefit extension, no DADT, no Dream Act, no Immigration Reform, no climate and energy overhaul - need I go on?
What exactly does he plan to talk about at the State of the Union address? How does he, as his party leader and commander in-chief, ennumerate what didn't get done, including DA, despite multiple opportunities?

If this deal passes Obama lost the re-election already, that is how bad this deal is. Actually, whatever happens right now he probably already lost the re-election, he lost the democratic base and several backers are going to with-hold funds from his re-election, while the rich are going to go in droves to support the republican party.

Besides, the deal is not going to hit the house floor this senate session, that has pretty much been guaranteed by almost unanimous consent from all the democrats except one.

And the filibuster in the senate is bound to get many if not most democrats on board as well, so the question is, do we stay on the sidelines or do we adjust to this change in the game?
