The question I am going to ask is irrelevant to the current events. I am having a very hard time finding a job (as an illegal immigrant), so I want to ask how YOU found one?

Now don't leave stupid answers like, "Worry about this later. Once the Dream Act passes, you can find a job. Now focus all you energy making those calls, faxes, and emails." Since I am desperate for any type of status, that's all I have been doing these last two days. I have been sending faxes and making calls to ALL the senators from the Target List. Anyways, even if the Dream Act does pass, it will take awhile before we would get our social security for work reasons.

But onto my main question, can you give me any advice on finding a job? I hardly have any contacts, so I don't have anyone to ask. I am looking a for a job in a Houston or Dallas area.

Well since you mention Houston and Dallas knowing spanish is helpful? I've always found it useful to ask other immigrants (in my case spanish) if they know of any place where they are hiring. If you know spanish listen to the AM stations and sometimes people call requesting people to work for them, example LA TREMENDA radio staion in the mornings, hell you can even call them up and advertise yourself on there. You can always go donate blood/plasma....j/k

this advice is assuming you speak Spanish. Most popular latino papers always have a classified ads section. there are also job agencies listed there. I cant link you cus im in nyc. you'll have to find out yourself by buying a paper. Keep in mind these jobs suck because they are considered part of the black market economy, aka, not so great pay, shitty jobs such as cashier, dishwasher, barback, deliveries. etc. etc. so if you're serious about working, you're gonna start there. unless you have a better idea. good luck.

if you go to an agency they'll charge you about 100.00. give you a choice of places to check out, interviews etc.

just realized TX sucks for that!

If you're in nyc or decide to come up... here's a hookup if CL sucks

if you live up north, when it snows you could clean drive ways, or clean leaves.
