I'd like to have a frank discussion about the term "illegal immigrant". I argued about the immigration issue (DREAM Act) on another forum that I was banned from because of my opinion and conclusions I had made about the DREAM Act. Does it make more sense to call the immigrants "Non-native immigrants", instead of "illegal immigrants"? I tried to explain that term on the site I was banned from, but they laughed at the phrase and still referred to them as illegals.

There is a website here that attempts to create a national outcry to drop usage of the I-word. I urge you all to visit this site, sign this petition and please express your views. Using the I-word is just as bad as calling someone "retarded" or some other word with a negative connotation to it.

colorlines and dailykos are great sites! You weren't banned from there, were you!? I would suspect that you'd get banned from THIS site... seeing how some opinions seem to vanish or posters get reprimanded for not reflecting the agenda proposed by the administrators....

On a better note, everyone is an immigrant, legal or otherwise. A PC term could be created but in the eyes of hate and the screens of millions of FOX viewers, they will always be illegal. It's a disgusting when people don't question what they hear, watch and read. It's a sign that democracy is dying and the freewill of The People is diminishing.

It was at this site. Eventually I realized that debating with those particular posters at GossipRocks was a lost cause so I basically "trolled" the topic while still arguing my point about the DREAM Act. What I found was mostly girls/ladies who replied who were against the DREAM Act. Hopefully you all won't get too upset at me from reading the thread, just remember that we're all on the same team here, and because I'm at this site, I'm acting much different than how I acted at GossipRocks.

Hopefully you all can read through the 30 page thread, it's a fun thrill ride. There were some people there who did support my views about the act that I made, but more people there opposed.

We're all illegals deal with it. Calling yourself non native immigrant doesn't get you an SSN, it's just a word.

I know that its a issue that will get negative feedback because you are trying to change the meaning of what it means for your cause only. Therefore you are trying to get a country to use your terminology rather than the correct terminology which will piss them off more and will hurt the cause. I actually listened to a program on PBS with the women whose organization decided to start this and she was made to look like a fool. One of the remarks was does that mean you want us to start calling bank robbers non-authorized personal taking funds. When do people start thinking as others do in this country so you can get to real ideas and answers to issues?
