I graduated recently with a BS in chemistry. I am having a tough time trying to figure out what to do. I can't really utilize my degree in anyway. I currently don't have a job. If anyone can give me some guidance because I feel quite helpless.

Has anyone attended graduate school? How has it worked out?

I don't know if this is a valid question to ask here, but what type of employment can I pursue? PM or email if needed.

Thanks

I'm in the same situation as you jrpallares. I'm not sure what kind of jobs/positions that you can obtain with a BS in Chemistry. You know more about this. I suggest you ask around and network with the people around you. Through networking, maybe you can find a off the books position. You can also look around for any volunteer opportunities or research opportunities within your field. I know its hard but at this point, this seems like the only option for us. I'm sure if you keep looking, you will be able to find something. Someone in the science field here may be able to assist you better than me. Good luck.

Thanks, those are good suggestions.

I guess I was more wondering if anyone had any experience attending grad school. i.e. If there exist any problems dealing with having proper documentation.

I know many students TA classes to pay for school. Also, stipends are offered at some universities to help pay for school. Paying for school would be the most difficult as I am currently unemployed. Has anyone used either of these?

currently paying out of pocket. If you have the grades and depending on your state you may look into financial aid or scholarships?

Yeah, easier said than done.

Grad school costs can be practically astronomical for someone who is ineligible for scholarships/stipends. I did it for over 2 years in a PhD program in Physics and the costs were approx. 14k a year (tuition+books+fees, and this was a state school with an in-state tuition rate) and this doesn't include living expenses and transportation, and most importantly you have way less free time than when you were an undergrad, which makes is very, very difficult to have a job at the same time.

My family was able to help me a bit in the beginning, but now, with the economy being the way it is and everything else, doing Grad school on your own as an undocumented, without serious luck as far as stipends and scholarships, verges on impossibility.

True that....ok, 2nd option, if grad school isn't possible, just try to get a job....just don't sit on your ass cuz it'll fucking eat you like you have no idea (been there done that). Once you've saved up, you can decide to bail or continue studying.
