has anyone here adjusted their status through marriage and consulted with a lawyer? how much does it usually cost?

i just recently got engaged to my longtime boyfriend (yay!) and we consulted with a lawyer regarding adjusting my status. since i was an EWI and 245i beneficiary, i needed to pay an extra $1000 fine. the lawyer quoted us a total of $5500. is this the average cost for a lawyer?

i'm aware that i shouldn't gamble my future just so that i can save some money. i simply would like to know how much it usually cost.

thanks for those who reply!

$5500 is actually pretty cheap compared to most.

I see that the lawyer makes $3000 from your case. For adjustment of status, the application fee is $2500 for EWI.

I would suggest u should consult another lawyer too. But also the credential of the lawyer too. If this includes all the fees and the fine amt. then i think the amt. is somewhat right. By the way, where are you located, maybe someone can come up with the good lawyer there. Good luck and start your process as soon as possible.

Will your lawyer come with you to the interview with the consul? The fee better include it as it is very IMPORTANT that the lawyer be present there or else you'll undergo a lot of scrutiny.

Both my brothers did it at a little over 3k. And now I'm doing adjustment of status with the same lawyer (Through family petition).
