Hello, I turned 18 last October. I recently heard from a close friend that I should apply for selective service. However, I am feeling a bit paranoid about it because you are basically letting the government know that you are undocumented from what I understand, (please correct me if I am wrong).

I also don't have a social security number.
Can somebody please help me through this process and why I have to apply for this?
Thanks.

You need to be a man, first of all.

Every individual has to sign up for selective service. We have to as well. This fulfills the requirement of maintaining "good moral behavior." Don't worry. They will not come find and deport you for doing this. You do not need to provide the social security number. Just go to a post office and get the form to sign up for selective service.

Yeah don't worry about it. I was also paranoid, so i double checked with my immig. lawyer and he confirmed that it was okay for me to do. Just go to the post office and ask for the form(it's actually a fold out post card) and mail it out. You can fill it out even if you don't have a ss#.

I recommend you mail it out in an envelope, rather than having your info exposed with the naked postcard. Btw, i did this in late october of last year and got the sss card in the mail in like Dec.

Good Luck!

Completely correct, Tyler. I hope we don't get one of these letters in the mail one day telling us that we're drafted in the military and we must show up.
