hi all just found this webbie, and i am an out of status individual who has had his visa expire for several years now.

i am in college and i want to help out in the community so i can get into a good college that recognizes hard work other than school

how can i volunteer if i dont have a ssn? do they even require it?
i do have an itin but can it pass background checks?

and any news on the new york dream act? to be honest even if it still has some issues if they could allow driving for illegal immigrants.....
i would just like to DRIVE!!!i think it should be a right everyone can have. if some illegals already drive without it why not just allow them to drive?
sure some of them may drive without insurance but if auto insurance companies can have prepaid cards or something so you can put in money for services then it would be not problem at all...

Many places dont require an SSN to volunteer, but if its at like Hospitals or something they might. What state are you in? The best thing to do in HS (what i did) was join clubs like habitat for humanity or student government or other things you are interested in to help and be actively involved in your community. Even doing work with your church or religious affiliation or something would count

Check our Newyorkcares.org
They don't ask for status.
