so anyway im an overstay with an expired state id and a social security card that has the "“VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.” stamp on it.. only legal thing i have would be my VALID passport from my home country..

the thing is ive been the victim of an identity theft and now i need to go to the police station and file a police report.. has anyone here done that before? my dad says dont worry about it because i havent done anything wrong but the difference between reporting a fire and this is that its IDENTITY THEFT.. so i will need to prove my identity. what do they ask you and what documents do you need to provide.. im just scared of going in and never coming back out.. i live in VIRGINIA by the way. any information would be a great help.. thank you!!

I don't think you should have any problems.. I don't know how friendly Virginia is but I don't see a problem...

Controversial to popular believes we do have some rights here...

If you have been victimize reported...

A police report is no big deal anyway's they won't do an investigation on you..

its not that that they would do an investigation tht scares me its its the whole ID part.. like for example of course they're going to ask for my state ID then once i show it what do i say once they ask me why its expired.. if i tell them i dont have a state ID and only show whats valid.. like my passport, what if they're all like "why dosent have a stamp stating which visa you came with".. stuff like that, that really scares me.

I know it's hard DreamAct1 but you have to realize your a Dreamer Now.... It's just how life is.. Most cops won't do anything about it and your not a criminal alien even if you are detain you are not there priority..

don't be afraid and go to police if you have been victimized..

Hi there fellow Dreamer,

I am also an Overstay and was also a victim of identity theft early this year. I filed for a police report with no problem whatsoever. I don't have a state id, so I gave him my passport and the debit card (the number was used by the perp online). The policemen were really nice and didn't ask anything about my status, only about how my debit card was stolen. It may be that we live in different states and that NYC is a sanctuary city so maybe YMMV?

To lighten the mood a little- at one point, I was able to ask the police officer to take a picture of me in a jail cell. I think he saw me all flustered and annoyed at having my debit card number stolen that he felt bad for me and did it. It was kind of ironic and cool at the same time. Also, I have a million dollar smile so that could do it too.

But seriously, just keep your calm and whatever you do, be nice to the police officers. Just because they're in uniform doesn't mean they can't be kind. I wound up sending the policeman a nice handwritten thank you card for the trouble he went through to follow up on the case for me. Good luck! Having your id stolen is annoying!!
