As embarrassing as this may sound I have never actually gotten behind a car to learn how to drive,so was wondering how you guys learned ?

You have to be a real bad ass to get on the freeway for the first time with no license.. Here is the kicker I was on a date too.. I was very embarrassed because as we were going to our destination the girl told me "aren't you going to take the freeway?" I was like "um ok" it felt like a video game after a bit, where you actually die lol...

I learned by driving on my block only then making small trips to the super market which is two blocks away.. After a while you realize that all streets are the same...

I still can't drive stick, which is really embarrassing since my dad drives and operates trucks that are 18 to 26 shifts and has 2 jeeps..

what do you mean you are going for you're license?

My first try was nerve racking, but by the 2nd day I was already driving on the streets and on the 3rd freeway.. Good luck getting your license, I've been driving with an IDL with no problem

Go on a big parking lot with little to no people. If you have a driving permit try to practice with a GOOD driving instructor. Careful with picking one cause most charge for 2 hours a session and they just make the clock run. Don't be afraid to ask questions and remember to keep calm. Maybe they can point out your mistakes.

Take it all one step at a time. You don't need a driving instructor. Just get a friend who's licensed, and that doesn't have a short temper to teach you. The only way of learning is to actually do it. My sister in law was forced to drive because her husband pretended to be having a heart attack so she was forced to learn or he would die. Cruel and morbid? Maybe. Effective? Most definitely.

My Dad taught me when I was 15. He pulled over like a mile before our house showed me what everything was and does. Let me practice holding the accelerator steady, while in park, and then let me drive home. All of my first driving trips were at night on the way home.

It was a required class at one of the high schools I attended (Chicago area). They give you a permit and lessons no questions asked. For practice I just drove around the neighborhood, then locally, then finally I took an 8 hour road trip
