Yesterday my friends and I went hiking on the Sandias. Apparently, they are closed because of fire dangers. When we came down from the hike, all five of us were met by a mall-cop type security guy, two forest rangers, and two sheriffs. We were all processed and given tickets. I was the last one and the cops were really confused as to why i didn't have a social; I think they knew about my situation, but they let me off because i am a student.
Anyway, it is my first offense.

Anyone have any good stories about getting busted for stupid shit?

Um... why would they ask you for SSN? Do you mean driver license?

They were writing a ticket for a federal offense; i had no dl so they asked for my ssn and I said I didn't know it. Then, they got suspicious and took my matricula consular and looked at it for like half an hour. Then, they let me go lol

I received a citation for no bike helmet at 13, never paid it though. What are the repercussions for not paying a citation? You don't have a court date do you?

Dude, next time give them your student ID first and tell them that you are student. It works sometime.

Yeah, i gave them my school ID and both sheriff and forest service dudes were thrilled with them. They asked about my ssn and started getting all intense with i couldn't 'remember' my social. Then I said I was from out of state, and I give the matricula to prove it... they check it for what seemed like forever, all my friends were just looking at me from their car. After what seemed like a long time, they walked to me, returned the matricula, and the cop advised me to get a state ID to avoid the confusion.

I don't have a court date, but if I don't pay, I assume they'll come find me.

I would of told them as I have in the past officer I don't have a SSN... They usually ask why and to get one... I also would have told them I don't have a drivers license or a California I.D. Let what will happen happen once and for all...

I think you mean in turns into a warrant. You should pay and get it over with if possible.

Concerning stories,I guess that would be the time I went to a well known casino using only my passport as ID.They checked my passport when entering the bus and in the main lobby to allow me entry into the Casino without issue......but it was a different story when I got to the gambling floor even though I was over 21 at the time.On the floor, about two separate occasions,I was walked off the floor even though I had met the age requirements w/ the last security lady mentioning "You do not belong here" due to no stamp in my passport. However,I still continued to gamble by just going to different areas. What helped were some friends who knew about the situation and actually argued w/ her considering the only thing required should be you prove over 21 years. From that point on,I have been somewhat ambivalent about this country in genera......but after sometime you learn the country has always been this way somewhat and deal with it in your own way.
