So what's your take on this guy? Really the Republicans only have one viable candidate at the moment (Romney), and Perry has a history of job creation on which he can run, giving Romney and even Obama a run for their money. I know the guy's been flip flopping on immigration issues (which republican hasn't?) and comes accross a bit cooky at times w/his religion stuff, but he did institute the 1st Dream Act in the United States and one of the most comprehensive ones at that.

In all honesty, when he decides to race, I think he'll be the guy that faces Obama. I know candidates tend to sanitize their mistakes on the web and elsewhere before they commit to run for office, so what dirty gossip have you heard? [only thing that struck me as way out there was his support for teaching intelligent design in schools]

PS: I know he has said some weird shit that has angered me in the past (me living in Texas I should know what it was); but I just can't recall.

Are you talking about the whole Texas seceding fiasco? And more recently he's been telling Texans to pray for rain.

We have to pray he doesn't win.

If he does, we're all dead, USCIS will be shooting us on the streets.

He is one of THE most conservative candidate.

Seceding, States that belong to the confederacy can no longer secede because it was in their agreement to return to the Union.

We know that. But someone should have explained that to Rick Perry.

to be fair, there was a pre-civil war clause under which Texas joined the Union that said they could secede if they wanted (to which Perry was referring); however he forgot to learn post-civil war history it seems.

and it seems to be pre-official:

You know a politician is lying, when there's a microphone around.

well....it's official, the GOP now has two pretty boy in the race. My impressions:

bunch of GOP fodder (god, the military, family, jobs, conservatism, bla, blah....).
He touched on 'protecting borders' very slightly, nothing about fixing immigration (which is kind of a good thing coming from the right). He hinted at pushing STEM and rejecting the obama healthcare.

He will come accross as an asshole to the international community, and liked to pass the blame game on the econonmy and even; get this, the credit down grade on obama.

My take: i think the guys has a better chance on his 'jobs' platform than whatever the other guy is running with. Don't remind him of how many of those are minimum wages or of his practices of industry poaching from other states however.

Perry's main contributors come from the housing industry. He's not about to bite the hand that's fed him. That's just coming from an economic perspective. If you look at him from a social conservative perspective, even the Southern Baptist Convention believes the DREAM Act is a viable solution, not to mention the Roman Catholic Church.

Then again, this is traditional conservative territory. Perry's done a good job campaigning to both Tea Party members and traditional conservatives alike. His record shows him to be more of the latter, though, and that's not necessarily a bad thing...
