my name is Anthony. I was brought to the United States from Nigeria when was about 8 on a visa that we overstayed, completely unaware of visa's or immigration procedures and what-not. Growing up, I've always had the idea that my situation was different. I was told that I couldn't get a drivers license, any real job, I've never even been allowed to see my passport, and i just recently turned 21 and don't even have the id to verify that. i go to a private university and not having financial aid has been tough so I've had to take semesters off, so now i spend days wasting away in front of the t.v. I'm always getting reprimanded for never doing anything, but i don't think anyone understands how embarrassing it is for me to ask my parents for a ride somewhere or money to blow in a night. My dad is a lawyer so I've always believed that he's been taking care of these things despite never getting any answers for him. Recently, i became fed up and started to research these things myself and now i find that I can't even take the Mcats and go to med school like i planned. I've always liked having my life planned and now i don't know what's gonna happen or what i should do. I feel absolutely miserable and so alone. had it been up to me, i wouldah turned my ass back to nigeria way before the visa expired. the high point of my day is bringing my mom to tears. It's sad but i don't see why she should be smiling and i'm not. the only thing i've ever wanted in life is a little independence.

Just reading through this forum has been really helpful. just knowing that i'm not the only one experiencing these things, worrying like this. I just wanted to say that.

Glad to have you on the forum. Hope things improve for you soon somehow. Stay positive & find something you like to occupy yourself while you figure out a game-plan for your life. There's no telling if or when the DA or CIR will pass so no use relying on those as your only way out. I'm still tryina figure out a game plan myself.
